Members of the Delaware County Legislative Delegation issued the following statement on Thursday's announcement by Prospect Medical Holdings about the closure of Crozer Health System. Prospect Medical Holdings’ reckless and devastating decision to shut down Crozer Medical Health System is a brazen attack on healthcare access in Southeast Pennsylvania. This isn’t just about stripping away 400 hospital beds, denying 25,000 hospital admissions, and abandoning over 75,000 emergency room patients in Delaware County—it’s a full-blown crisis that endangers emergency services along the I-95 corridor, guts maternal healthcare, and piles even more pressure onto already overburdened hospitals. This week, Prospect Medical Holdings’ board of directors voted to close Crozer Health after state and local officials, regional health systems, and philanthropic partners exhausted every possible option and financial resource to salvage the hospital system. Despite the recent $20 million lifeline extended by Delaware County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, there is no external healthcare entity or group of entities capable of absorbing the crushing debt, staggering liabilities, and operating deficit that Prospect recklessly drove Crozer into. HARRISBURG, Feb. 25 – State Rep. Heather Boyd, D-Delaware, today announced that Clifton Heights Borough will receive $200,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Multimodal Transportation Fund to improve traffic and stormwater management along the North Springfield Road Corridor. “This funding is a significant investment in the safety and infrastructure of Clifton Heights,” Boyd said. “Improving traffic patterns and addressing stormwater issues will enhance the quality of life for residents and create a safer environment for pedestrians and drivers alike.” The planned improvements aim to reduce congestion, improve pedestrian safety, and mitigate flooding along the heavily traveled North Springfield Road. Project components include better traffic signaling, enhanced crosswalks, and modernized stormwater drainage systems to better handle runoff during heavy rains. HARRISBURG, Jan. 7 – State Rep. Heather Boyd was sworn into the Pennsylvania House of Representatives today, beginning her second term serving the 163 rd Legislative District in Delaware County. Boyd said that she will continue representing the interests of her fellow Pennsylvanians, especially focusing on economic opportunity and education funding. “Last session, we made a lot of progress toward adequately funding our schools, and I hope that we continue to capitalize on those investments and create even more funding opportunities these next two years,” said Boyd, D-Delaware. “The 2024-25 bipartisan budget I voted for last year included a historic $1.1 billion increase for K-12 education – marking the largest single-year investment in the commonwealth's history. To address a funding gap at SEPTA, Shapiro directed PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll to redirect $153 million in federal funds to SEPTA. This move will prevent service cuts and a planned 21 percent fare hike, maintaining operations for 800,000 daily riders in southeastern Pennsylvania through at least July 2025. Read more
