Funding Transit to Keep PA Moving

Dear Neighbor,

I’m proud to have once again voted to deliver transit funding for every county, strengthen accountability, and invest hundreds of millions in repairing roads and bridges across Pennsylvania.

Public transit keeps our economy moving – helping workers get to their jobs, students reach their classrooms, and seniors access groceries, medical care, and more. It also keeps hundreds of thousands of cars off our roads, reduces congestion, and supports good-paying, family-sustaining jobs that can’t be outsourced. Strong infrastructure attracts businesses, drives economic growth, and creates even more opportunities for Pennsylvanians.

The bill that House Democrats passed delivers what is needed and it doesn’t raise taxes.

Now it’s time for the state Senate to step up and concur. The bill they only introduced this week – six weeks late – fails to fully fund SEPTA and forces it to divert money from vital capital projects just to cover day-to-day operations. We need a real solution.

Contact Senate Republican leadership today and tell them to get back to work on a serious transit funding bill.

Meanwhile, we are also a month and a half past due for a full state budget as the Senate refuses to recognize the vital investments we need in education, county services, transit, workforce development and more.

Their late proposal rings hollow. Their Senate Bill 160 is simply not enough. It freezes funding across the board, ignoring the constitutional mandate to fully and fairly fund public education. Without increased investment, schools like William Penn cannot provide equitable opportunities for every student. The bill also fails to meet the state’s legal duty to fund Medicaid at levels required to meet health care needs under state and federal law.
