HARRISBURG, Jan. 16 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, today announced that more than $390,000 in state grant funding is headed to Delaware County for projects in the 161 st Legislative District. The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded the grants through the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program and Watershed Restoration Protection Program , which help organizations and municipalities fund projects that improve public parks, recreation areas, greenways, trails, and river conservation. The following were awarded: $75,000 for the Chester Creek Trail - Knowlton Road Trailhead Expansion. $67,323 for Phase II of Nether Providence Parks Athletic Improvements. $100,000 for Rose Valley Road Trail Project. $150,000 for Phase II of the Stream Bank Restoration in Houston Park. “Thanks to the hard work of Delco’s local municipal staff and dedicated elected officials, these important projects have received new grants that bring them one step closer to completion,” Krueger said. “These grants expand our recreational spaces and improve pedestrian safety. Use: The primary purpose of this project is to contract with an expert in the practice of surveying youth and adolescents to help inform necessary and appropriate revisions to the Pennsylvania Youth Survey (PAYS). Funds: Funding is provided through the State Violence and Delinquency Prevention Program stream. PCCD expects to fund one grant not to exceed $200,000. The Pennsylvania House of Representatives Legislative Fellowship Program is currently accepting applications for the Summer 2024 semester. Applications are due on March 1, 2024 . The Fellowship Program is based in Pennsylvania’s magnificent Capitol Building in Harrisburg . Fellows are assigned to work in House Standing Committees or House Leadership offices, are compensated for their work (which may also include college credit) and are provided the opportunities to draft and present their own legislation, attend meet-and-greets with various public officials and staff, and tour some of the Commonwealth’s historic public spaces, to name a few. Qualified applicants will be: College undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or law school students; Enrolled in a Pennsylvania college/university, or a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in an out-of-state institution; and Pursuing any major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. HARRISBURG, Dec. 19 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, said she is pleased to announce state grant funding to Delaware County projects from the Commonwealth Financing Authority totaling more than $4.6 million. These transformative grants will improve quality of life in the region and strengthen the commitment to the community, she said. I want to share that Gov. Josh Shapiro last week signed into law legislation that I voted for (Act 31/H.B. 507) to require medical facilities in Pennsylvania to obtain consent before performing pelvic, prostate or rectal exams on anesthetized patients. Read more
Last week on the House floor, I spoke in favor of HB 1786, which would protect patients who travel to PA for reproductive healthcare services, including abortion, and protect the providers who perform these services. This legislation will prohibit the Commonwealth from taking legal or law enforcement action against citizens from other states seeking asylum. Read more
I am back in Harrisburg this week for voting session. Today we voted on a bill that would provide a cost-of-living increase for retired teachers and state employees who retired prior to July 2, 2001, before Act 9 passed. These retirees have missed out on every cost-of-living increase since 2001 and have a hard time keeping up with rising inflation rates. I voted yes and the bill passed with a vote of 140-63. The House passed House Bill 612, providing a 7% increase in funding to Penn State University, the University of Pittsburgh, and Temple University and a 25% increase in funding for Lincoln University. The bill also freezes tuition increases at the universities for the 2024-25 school year. This week the House also passed legislation with overwhelming support that would ensure greater transparency by making the state-related universities subject to certain provisions of the state’s Right to Know Law. The PA House passed HB1449, a bill aimed at ensuring responsible contractors for taxpayer-funded public works projects. The bill, supported by both parties, aims to prevent unscrupulous contractors from winning contracts and increasing costs.
