Tune in for state budget hearings and check out my upcoming events

Dear neighbor,

Last week Gov. Josh Shapiro filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration’s federal funding freeze. Despite the Governor’s efforts to work with Pennsylvania’s Congressional delegation and multiple court rulings ordering federal agencies to restore access to funding, $2.1 billion for critical Pennsylvania programs remained frozen and the Governor needed to take action. I support Governor Shapiro’s efforts to fight to release this funding for Pennsylvania.

Blocking these critical funds is an unacceptable attack on Pennsylvania families, communities and our local economy. These funds were already legally approved by Congress and are crucial to supporting working families, rural communities and public safety initiatives across the commonwealth. The White House does not have the legal authority to “impound” dollars that Congress appropriated.

Federal funding is vital to ensuring that Pennsylvania has the resources needed to continue critical work, including programs that support our seniors, our schools and our infrastructure. I will keep you updated on the Governor’s fight.

AT THE CAPITOL

State Budget Hearings Now Through March 6

The House Appropriations Committee started hearings in Harrisburg today for three weeks of public hearings on Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2025-26 state budget proposal. Members of the governor’s cabinet will testify about the requests the governor is making to serve the needs to their departments, and the committee will ask them questions about their work.

These hearings have real purpose and impact and are an important step in setting up continuing negotiations among the House, Senate and Shapiro administration. As a member of the House Democratic leadership team, I am following these hearings closely.

If you’re interested in following the state budget process, I encourage you to tune into the hearings that interest you and invite you to share your feedback with me.

IN THE DISTRICT

Pendle Hill Visit

On Thursday I visited Pendle Hill to learn more about how they implemented a recent grant for tree work and to discuss ways in which state government collaborate with this important institution. Thank you to Francisco Burgos, Executive Director, and Jeff Zemsky, Director of Development, for our discussion and tour.

Visit with SEIU Workers

Last week I joined my fellow Southeast PA Delegation legislators and local members of the Service Employees International Union to learn more about this diverse organization representing thousands of hard-working residents across our Commonwealth. From security guards and all facets of healthcare professionals to bus drivers, school custodians, food service workers, and cleaners (just to name a few), SEIU is fighting for higher wages, quality healthcare, protections at work and other benefits for working people and their families.

Go Birds!

My son Wendell and I had a great time cheering on our Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles during Friday’s parade.
