The PA House will return to session on Monday following three weeks of Appropriations Committee hearings on the 2025-26 budget proposal. It was an enlightening process to speak with the state agencies about how they intend to use their portions of the budget and how their departments work. The General Assembly will take the next few months to go over what we’ve learned and work together to craft a budget that works for all Pennsylvanians. Grant Memo: Transportation, Agricultural, Environmental, Public Safety, Redevelopment and Additional Grant Opportunities

NEWLY LISTED PROGRAMS Commission on Crime and Delinquency: Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Funds Who May Apply: Eligibility for these funds is open to state, county, or municipal forensic crime laboratories to support activities that improve the quality and timeliness of forensic services. Use: To improve the quality and timeliness of forensic services throughout Pennsylvania, with an emphasis on combating opioids and synthetic drugs through laboratory accreditation, the certification of forensic scientists, and the purchase of laboratory equipment. Funds: A total of approximately $785,000 in federal Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvements funds is being announced to support this initiative. PCCD expects to fund four to six grants with budgets not to exceed $185,000 over the 15-month project period. NEWLY LISTED PROGRAMS Commonwealth Financing Authority: Multimodal Transportation Fund (MTF) Who May Apply: Municipalities, councils of government, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agency, ports (rail/freight) Use: The MTF provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation exists in Pennsylvania. The program is intended to provide financial assistance in order to improve public transportation assets that enhance communities, pedestrian safety, and transit revitalization. Funds: Requests must have a total eligible cost of $100,000 or more and no request shall exceed $3,000,000 for any project. Young Fighting Federal Education Cuts

Young announces over $673,000 for transportation projects

“Transportation is a priority in our area,” said Young. “As we continue to see the redevelopment of the Navy Yard area, traffic and safety improvements are required for the increased tourism and industry coming to South Broad Street. Safety and accessibility enhancements for the Philadelphia International Airport are always in order as air traffic and commerce fuels our economy. “I’m glad to see this funding awarded for these important high-traffic and active areas to ensure safety and access for travelers, commuters and our workforce.” Read more

Young announces grant for Tinicum Township Fire Co.

Regina Young, D-Phila./Delaware announced today that a grant of $15,246 has been awarded to the Tinicum Township Fire Co.“Our volunteer fire and emergency companies are the backbone of our communities,” said Young. “A grant like this means that our volunteers at Station 48 can be better equipped to serve and protect our neighborhoods and spend less time fundraising to be able to do their vital work. I want to emphasize the value and importance of our local first responders to our communities.” Read more

Below are multiple grant programs that are currently open for applications. NEWLY LISTED PROGRAMS Department of Conservation and Natural Resources: All-Terrian Vehicle and Snowmobile Program Who May Apply: Municipalities, non-profit and for-profit organizations Use: All-Terrain Vehicle and Snowmobile projects include the planning, acquisition of land, development, rehabilitation, maintenance, purchase of equipment for maintenance and construction, and development of educational programs related to ATV and/or snowmobile trails and facilities. Funds: Funding comes from the ATV Management Restricted Account and the Snowmobile Restricted Account as authorized by Act 97 of 2016. There is no match requirement for this funding; however, applications that provide match funding will be given additional consideration. A Budget for All + Protecting Kids from Exploitation

This week, Governor Shapiro presented his 2025-26 budget proposal to the General Assembly with much to be excited about for South and Southwest Philadelphia and Delco! This budget makes targeted and smart investments in the needs of our neighborhoods, starting with his continued commitment to an equitable public education for our children. I’m excited to see his aggressive strategy for economic and workforce development. Good jobs with good wages can uplift so many families and communities in conjunction with his plan to cut costs for hardworking Pennsylvanians through tax relief, ensuring access to affordable healthcare, and addressing the affordable housing crisis. And let’s FINALLY raise our minimum wage to make sure people are receiving a living wage to support themselves and their family without having to work multiple jobs and 80-hour weeks. Read more

NEWLY LISTED PROGRAMS Conservation and Natural Resources: Community Conservation Partnerships Program Who May Apply: Counties, municipalities, municipal agencies, nonprofit organizations, state heritage areas, prequalified land trusts, for-profit organizations (for some grant types). Use: Funds may be used for projects related to parks, recreation, and conservation, including, but not limited to, park and recreation rehabilitation and development, recreation and conservation planning, trail planning and construction, land acquisition and conservation, river access and conservation, community and riparian tree planting, and regional and statewide partnerships to better develop and manage resources.
