Recognizing the Life & Legacy of Elora Joyce Khan

Video

Monday, June 15 would have been Elora Joyce Khan’s 10th birthday, had she not been sadly taken from us three years ago due to pediatric brain cancer. Elora suffered from Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, or DIPG – a rare, incurable brainstem tumor. It’s a highly aggressive pediatric brain tumor with limited treatment options. In her honor, her family created the Elora J. Khan Foundation to advance pediatric brain tumor research and to provide support to families like hers who are confronting childhood cancer. I was honored that the House passed my resolution to designate June 15, 2026, as “Elora Joyce Khan Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. You can click above to watch my comments from the House Chamber on Elora and her incredible impact on this world.

Congratulations, Principal Baltimore-Hagen!

This week, I was honored to join Speaker of the House Joanna McClinton in welcoming to the House Chamber LeAndrea Baltimore-Hagan as a winner of the 2026 Lindback Award for Distinguished Principals! She has been the principal of John M. Patterson Elementary School in the Penrose Community since 2022. School may be out for the summer, but principals work year-round, so I’m grateful for her impactful dedication to our students and their education.

The Lindback Distinguished Principal Award recognizes and rewards school principals in the School District of Philadelphia who have made significant leadership and humanitarian contributions to their school community.

Congratulations, Principal Baltimore-Hagen!

PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Does the State Owe You Money?

Are you one of the nearly 30,000 people in our area who has Unclaimed Property in the PA Treasury Vault? It could be anything from lost paychecks, to jewelry, to forgotten savings bonds, or so much more. Our office is reaching out to our neighbors who have something valuable in the vault, but you can search your name on their website by clicking above to find out on your own and make your claim faster!

Property Tax/Rent Rebate Deadline Extended

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is now open for taxes or rent that you paid in 2025. This program provides a rebate ranging from $380 to $1,000 to eligible older adults and people with disabilities while meeting certain household income requirements. In Philadelphia, supplemental rebates provide an additional $190 to $500 in relief to applicants with the most need.

These rebates have made it easier for older and disabled folks to stay in their homes while affording groceries, medicine, and so much more.

The deadline has been extended to December 31, but there’s no reason to wait!

Apply online today or contact one of my offices to find out if you qualify and let us help you apply!

State Grants Available

My office helps city officials and local organizations connect to state grants available to help them do their important work to improve our communities and the lives of residents. You can find a list of state grant programs that are currently open for application on my website. We update this list as new programs come online so check back often.
