Souderton Area School District awarded computer science grant

This week, Gov. Tom Wolf announced $8.7 million in targeted grants through the PASmart Initiative, to expand computer science classes and teacher training at 765 schools around the state. I'm happy to see Pennsylvania investing in STEM and computer science as a way to better prepare students for jobs that are in demand, and I'm proud to see the Souderton Area School District among the recipients. Hanbidge, Malagari, and Collett to host LIHEAP “Home Heating Workshop” next Thursday

BLUE BELL, Jan. 17 – State Reps. Liz Hanbidge and Steve Malagari, both D-Montgomery, along with state Sen. Maria Collett, D-Montgomery/Bucks, will host a “Home Heating Workshop” from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 in the North Wales Borough Hall, 300 School St., North Wales. The workshop is open to the public and will include representatives from the PA Department of Human Services who will discuss Universal Service Programs such as the Customer Assistance Program, LIHEAP grants, the CARES program, Smart Comfort, and the Dollar Energy Fund. “I’m excited to partner with my fellow newly-elected officials and the DHS to offer this workshop to ensure all Montgomery County residents are able to stay warm this winter without sacrificing their budget,” Hanbidge said. “Pennsylvania offers many affordable and excellent services that can improve the health and safety of our families, and it’s important that we, as elected officials, inform our communities about how we can make government work for us.” Staff will also be on hand to assist with registering for LIHEAP. “With the height of the winter season approaching, it is crucial that our residents are able to stay warm,” Malagari said. “I am glad that along with my colleagues, we will help create awareness of the LIHEAP program and help to provide a resource for those struggling to heat their homes.” LIHEAP offers cash grants of Read more

Below are a number of programs and services available to help veterans and their families. Please share this list with any veterans in your life. Veterans Temporary Assistance Temporary help is available for veterans and their beneficiaries who need aid for essentials such as shelter, fuel, clothing and food. If eligible, a veteran or their beneficiary can qualify for up to $1,600 in a 12-month period. The Disabled Veterans Real Estate Tax Exemption Program Any honorably discharged veteran who is 100 percent disabled, a resident of Pennsylvania and has financial need can apply for this program, which provides real estate tax exemption on principal dwellings. Educational Gratuity Program Children of honorably discharged veterans with service-connected disabilities or children of veterans who died in service during a period of war or armed conflict qualify for up to $500 per semester/term to help defray educational costs. Military Family Relief Assistance Program Eligible Pennsylvania service members and their family members who have a direct and immediate financial need as a result of circumstances beyond their control can apply for up to $3,500 in grants.
