Rep. Steve Malagari May 16, 2025
Dear Neighbor,
The Lombardi Trophy came to visit us in Harrisburg last week! But that’s not the only exciting thing happening in the Capitol. We passed some important new legislation that would improve the lives of Pennsylvanians:
Keystone Saves Retirement Accounts (H.B. 1263): This retirement savings program would give the more than 2 million working Pennsylvanians without access to a 401(k) plan from their employer better means to save for their future. Savings would be deducted into a retirement account managed by the PA Treasury.
Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit (H.B. 820): This credit would build on the success of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit — one of the most impactful anti-poverty programs in the country. If you qualify for the federal EITC, you would automatically receive a state tax credit worth 30% of your federal credit, putting money back in your pocket to spend on what you need.
Voting Rights Protection Act (H.B. 1396): This legislation aims to make it easier for you to exercise your right to vote, and would improve the elections process by implementing reforms such as providing options for early voting, increasing access to ballot drop boxes, allowing voters to correct minor errors on a mail-in ballot, and allowing election officials to prepare mail-in ballots ahead of Election Day, also known as pre-canvassing.
Strengthening the Construction Workplace Misclassification Act (H.B. 721): An illegal practice known as "worker misclassification" costs us millions of dollars each year and punishes companies playing by the rules. While all workers are vulnerable to this unscrupulous practice, the construction industry is where we're seeing the greatest impact. This measure would protect workers and small community businesses operating correctly while increasing oversight on companies willfully cheating workers.
Hometowners in Harrisburg
We also had the opportunity to celebrate some hometown victories up in the Capitol. I had the privilege of visiting with some prestigious athletes from North Penn High School, recognizing members of both the Ice Hockey and Swim Relay teams with citations for winning their State Championships!
I also got to celebrate with some distinguished academics from Souderton Area High School. Their newspaper, The Arrowhead, won the Clyde F. Lytle Keystone All-State Gold Award! The award recognizes outstanding student journalists who worked hard to produce quality, impactful reporting.
