Around the 53rd District - July 18, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

With the summer heat in full swing, my colleagues and I in the House are continuing to deliver for the working people of Pennsylvania.

While we are still waiting for our counterparts in the Senate to work with us on the balanced, responsible, and bipartisan budget that we advanced earlier this week, this will not overshadow our other legislative commitments to you and our fellow Pennsylvanians.

Here’s how I’ve been working for you, at home and in Harrisburg:

From the House:

Protecting Older Pennsylvanians (H.B. 1466): This bill would help protect the financial security of homeowners – especially seniors -- by requiring financial counseling before they enter a reverse mortgage. Reverse mortgages allow people to borrow against the equity of their home and can be a valuable financial tool, but also come with significant risks that they should be made aware of. This is just one example of how we’re supporting the right of seniors to retire with dignity.

Raising Awareness of Mental Health Resources (H.B. 564): This legislation would direct the Department of Human Services to create a public education campaign for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline. Many who experience mental health challenges may be unaware this important resource exists, and this campaign will specifically center veterans, first responders, and those with limited English proficiency to address disparities in the use of the 988 Crisis Line.

From the Governor’s Office:

Protecting Against AI Scams (Act 35 of 2025): As artificial intelligence continues to advance, generative AI now allows almost anyone to generate realistic photo, video, and audio—even without consent. This new law makes it a third-degree felony to use AI-generated content to commit fraud, to protect you and to help law enforcement hold bad actors accountable.

A Visit from The Wall That Heals

I was honored and humbled to take part in the opening day of The Wall That Heals in Montgomery Township.

At 375 feet long, the scale and impact of this traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial is truly breathtaking—and it honors those who served and sacrificed during this era.

With the arrival of this wall, we brought the memory of our service members home and paid homage to their service to our country. I’m hopeful that all of our neighbors got the chance to visit in memory of those who served, and I’m thankful for the hard work of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and the Montgomery Township staff that brought the wall to our community.

Scam Jam: Spot the signs and stop the scams!

My Scam Jam in Hatfield brought our community members together to learn practical tips and tricks to protect from robocalls, online fraud, and other common scams.

As scammers get more advanced, it’s more important than ever that we know what to look out for. Our attendees heard firsthand from experts about real examples of scams in our area and the steps local law enforcement is taking to protect us.
