Nelson: Upwards of $175K awarded across 154th Legislative District

(Sep 21, 2022)

HARRISBURG, Sept. 21 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, announced that $176,000 in state funding has been awarded to support numerous trail and watershed restoration projects across the 154 th Legislative District. Funding was granted through the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development. Nelson said $44,000 was awarded via the CFA’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program to Cheltenham Township for walkway and driveway improvements at Curtis Arboretum. Another $44,000 was awarded through the same program to Springfield Township for phase two of the Walnut Avenue Trail. Two additional $44,000 disbursements came by way of the CFA’s Watershed Restoration Protection Program, Nelson said. The first disbursement was awarded to Cheltenham Township for stream restoration at Robinson Park. The remaining funding was earmarked for the Whitemarsh Valley Country Club’s stream restoration and protection initiative. “Environmental upkeep and enhancements play a large role in helping our district thrive,” Nelson said. “So, it’s important we do everything possible to protect our local environment – greenways, trails and waterways – in order to leave a sustainable community and future for generations to come.” Read more

Nelson applauds state budget’s increase in school funding, investment in crucial programs that support Pennsylvanians

(Jul 07, 2022)

HARRISBURG, July 7 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, released the following statement Thursday regarding the state budget. “I’m grateful my colleagues on both sides of the aisle were able to meet on common ground to get this budget passed. There is a lot to unpack in Senate Bill 1100, including the $850 million more in the budget for K-12 basic education funding, $27 million of which was earmarked for Montgomery County Schools. “The commonwealth’s crucial Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program saw an increase in funding upward of $140 million. This is much-needed funding for individuals on fixed incomes. As it stands today, this funding will provide current participants with another one-time check that is equal to 70% of what they receive in this year’s rebate. “The budget also reduced Pennsylvania’s Corporate Net Income Tax rate while closing a few loopholes, expands incentives for businesses to invest in research and development and biotech. It also increases our funding commitment to entrepreneurship through the Ben Franklin Technology Partners. We even increased the film industry tax credit. “We have increased funding in housing affordability and rehabilitation; school safety, security and mental health; public safety and violence prevention; and so much more. “In total, the budget aims to make a large impact across the commonwealth and right here Read more

Nelson announces $2.5 million in state funding for two projects

(Apr 22, 2022)

CHELTENHAM, April 22 – State Rep. Napoleon Nelson, D-Montgomery, today announced two Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program grants worth $2.5 million have been secured for Beth Sholom Synagogue and Salus University. “I am pleased to see this RACP funding invested into our community,” Nelson said. “The money will be used to help preserve an iconic landmark, the Beth Sholom Synagogue. It will also allow Salus University to modernize and better serve its students. I want to thank Governor Tom Wolf and all the hard-working people who helped secure this funding.” $2 million was awarded to the Beth Sholom Synagogue Preservation Foundation in Cheltenham Township. The funding will be used to repair and restore the synagogue’s dome. The building was designed by the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright and is a National Historic Landmark. Special attention will be paid to both exterior and interior elements, including the landscaping. “As a National Historic Landmark, I am pleased to see the commonwealth invest this funding into our synagogue,” said Herb Sachs, immediate past president of the Beth Sholom Synagogue Preservation Foundation. “Our goal is to ensure the synagogue can still be used as a place of worship and future generations can continue to appreciate the architectural designs of Frank Lloyd Wright. We are grateful to Representative Nelson and Read more
