Nelson weekly email for August 29: Wishing you a happy and safe Labor Day

It’s the beginning of a new school year. We’re hopefully landing on a state budget that increases the minimum wage. We’re fighting for funding for bus drivers and homecare workers and nurses and teacher’s aides and police officers. As the calendar turns to September, it’s a moment to think about those individuals that are most important to our collective organizations and ask ourselves if we’re taking care of those that we rely on the most.

Which is why I’m so baffled, surprised, and giddy that Jerry Jones has traded Micah Parsons to the Packers! What a stupid thing to do! He’s the best player on a $13Billion franchise and Jerry’s too greedy and arrogant to treat him with the respect he deserves. He’s made his team worse. He’s undercut the huge contract he gave Dak Prescott just a few months ago! Less than a week ahead of the Cowboys coming to town for their annual butt-whooping in the Linc, Jerry Jones put his greed ahead of his desire to dignify his team.

E-A-G-L-E-S   EAGLES!!!

P.S. No, my living wage efforts don’t mean I’m fighting for more money for professional athletes. I will offer more on the budget and my efforts to raise wages in PA coming next week.

P.P.S. I’m predicting a 2-2 record thru September. 5-3 at the bye week, 8-4 after November, and 11-6 record to finish the season. Division Champs because our tough schedule will be offset by the Commanders late bye week. Let’s make plans for an NFC title game in Detroit or Green Bay and then go get ourselves another parade!

The High Note

Thanks to everyone who donated to help Mitzvah Circle after the fire that destroyed over a million dollars’ worth of goods. Our community came together, collecting clothing, diapers, and other essential items, which we dropped off at State Representative Joe Webster’s office for coordinated distribution.

Your generosity is making a real difference, helping Mitzvah Circle continue its vital work supporting families in need during this challenging time. It’s inspiring to see our community step up when it matters most.
