Nelson weekly email for September 5: Shred Event TOMORROW, Plus Bark in the Park Rescheduled

I have been sensing a bit of confusion throughout the community, and I want to do a little Q&A this week.

Q: Is the Senior Fair coming up or did I miss it?
A: I’m glad you asked. The Senior Fair is coming up on Thursday, September 18th. You should come.

Q: If I’m a high school senior, but am not sure what I want to do with my life, is the Senior Fair for me?
A: You’re not the sort of “Senior” we’re talking about! Go back to class!

Q: I may be 72, but don’t call me a senior! I’m a "seasoned saint." Is there any reason for me to go?
A: Yes! For some reason, we offer seasoned saints like you the same great benefits and money-saving tricks that we offer older people. You may as well come and hear about it.

Q: Will there be pretzels?
A: Absolutely! If you would register in advance, it helps us ensure that we have enough pretzels for everyone. Also, coffee and donuts!

Q: Does SEPTA still do the senior discount cards?
A: So far, so good… Yes! Come and sign up.

Q: I’m the caretaker for my senior parent. Can I come to the Senior Fair to get information for my loved one.
A: Absolutely. YES! We have plenty of great information on services, benefits, protections, and community supports for our seniors and those who love them. Come on out!

See you all on Thursday, September 18th from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m!

Mitzvah Circle Donations

Collecting Donations for Mitzvah Circle

You may have heard that a couple of weeks ago, one of Mitzvah Circle Foundation’s storage trailers caught fire. While everyone is safe, and emergency responders were able to put out the fire, the loss was insurmountable. Damage from the fire, water and smoke caused a loss of $1.2 million in new, wholesale purchased goods that were planned to be distributed to families in their communities.

These items included new clothing and back packs for students to begin their school year with dignity, undergarments, shoes, diapers and 200 pack n plays. The pack n plays typically go to hospitals, which they give to families who cannot afford a crib, ensuring infants can sleep safely at home.

The initial news story can be found here

My office is collecting the items in the graphic above to help replace some of the items they lost. You can drop off these items at my office, 115 E. Glenside Ave., Suite 8. Please call my office with any questions, 215-572-5210.

PECO anticipates starting on phase four, in LATE October of 2025, in Cheltenham. Prior to any work starting on your street, PECO will distribute a door hanger to let you know when work will begin. All lane closures will be clearly marked.

Construction will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. To find more information on the project, please visit: peco.com/elkinspark
