I still remember walking into Representative Nelson's office on the first day of my internship: nervous, excited, and unsure of what to expect, but ready to dive in. Now, as my time here comes to an end, I can confidently say this was the perfect first step into public service, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
Working so closely with constituents gave me a front-row seat to the real issues, challenges, and triumphs that shape our community. This hands-on experience, grounded in direct connection with people we serve, taught me more than any classroom ever could.
As I return to D.C. for my second year at The George Washington University, I carry with me not only new skills and insights but a deeper understanding of what it means to serve. I've learned about our community, but also about myself. I am more sure than ever that I have the compassion and drive it takes to care deeply for others, which I have come to understand is truly essential in this field of work.
I am incredibly grateful for this experience and the chance to get to know and work with the amazing people who made this internship unforgettable. Thank you, Representative Nelson, Shannon, Jack, Rashid, Cindy, John and my fellow interns, Grace and Cheyenne.
