Dear Neighbors,
I’m proud to share with you that on Monday, the House passed HB 1405, my legislation that makes it easier for veterans to complete CTE instructional 1 certification! People with this certification can teach in career and technical education programs in Pennsylvania’s public schools. If this bill becomes law, four full-time years of military service in a given occupational skill area will count toward the certification.
Creating new opportunities for veterans is important to me. The skills gained while in military service can be unique but are also transferrable. It benefits everyone to allow service members the opportunity to take these skills to the classroom. And at a time when we’re seeing significant shortages in education it’s more important than ever to broaden how we certify people to teach the kids in our community.
It was a busy week in Harrisburg! Here are other great bills that passed the House. These, and HB 1405, all head to the state Senate for consideration:
- Consumer protection: HB 967 prohibits ticket sellers from charging fees of more than 5% of a ticket price for sporting, musical, theater and other entertainment events.
- Teacher shortages: In addition to my HB 1405, another bill, HB 1402, addresses the PA teacher shortage by ensuring teacher certification fees won’t exceed $50.
- Health and safety: HB 191 requires AEDs at school athletic events.
- Maternal health: HB1088 requires insurance plans to cover home-use blood pressure monitors.
- Outdoor recreation: HB 1431 removes the ban on Sunday hunting.
- Justice: HB 462 and HB 464 provide a two-year window for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to seek justice and file previously time-barred claims.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns about state government, feel free to reply to this email or call my office at (215) 323-6997. My team and I are here to help.

Welcome to the William Tennent High School Robotics Team
|
On Tuesday I welcomed William Tennent High School’s robotics team to the House chamber as special guests. The team recently competed in the FIRST Robotics Mid-Atlantic District Championship at Lehigh University. While in the state Capitol, they demonstrated the robot they designed and built for legislators, staff, and visitors. It’s exciting to see this program in action!

Warrington Park Wins
Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence
|
Lions Pride Park’s “Kid Mountain” in Warrington was recently one of 19 projects honored by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection with a Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence. The park features an ecological restoration project that took a pond full of impounded sediment and invasive species and turned it into a native freshwater shrub wetland accessible to the community.
Kid Mountain has an accessible play space for kids of all ages and abilities and includes a path that guides visitors through new wetland areas and rainwater basins. Award applications were evaluated for their degree of environmental protection, innovation, partnership, economic impact, consideration of climate change, sustainability, and environmental justice. Congratulations to Warrington Township, the Warrington Lions’ Club, and the surrounding community!

$90,000 to American Legion Post 798
|
I recently had the honor of presenting a $90,000 ceremonial check to American Legion Post 798 for renovations and repairs to their legion building. As a veteran, I have a deep gratitude for the amazing service members at Post 798 and had the privilege of joining the organization myself after the check presentation.

Last Saturday, my staff and I participated in the annual Bucks Arts and Barks Pet and Family Fest in Warminster, a festival of adoptable pets, pet vendors, crafters, artisans, live music, and more. Despite the rain, we had a great time meeting constituents, event volunteers, and all the pets that attended. I’m already looking forward to next year!
