HARRISBURG, July 16 – State Rep. Manny Guzman said that two important projects in Reading and Berks County will be funded thanks to state grants approved by the Shapiro administration today. Alvernia University acquired $750,000 in state grants to renovate a new building in Reading that it purchased to establish a multi-use facility featuring a community-based health clinic. The Rose Corp. was awarded $500,000 to expand its paint and blast facility, adding under-roof production with crane capacity. “I am proud to have helped secure funding for two important projects that will make a significant impact in our community. The Alvernia University American House II project will bring a much-needed community health clinic to downtown Reading, expanding access to essential services for families across Berks County,” Guzman said. HARRISBURG, July 13 – State Rep. Manny Guzman, D-Berks, chairman of the Central Pennsylvania House Delegation and a member of the House Appropriations Committee, on Monday praised Pennsylvania’s 2026-27 state budget for delivering critical investments that will strengthen Reading, Berks County and communities across Pennsylvania. After working alongside his colleagues throughout the weekend to finalize the $50.8 billion spending plan, Guzman highlighted the budget’s investments in public education, affordable housing, tax relief for working families, public safety, mental health, job creation and health care, all without raising taxes. “Our communities deserve a budget that provides the support and resources hardworking families need to navigate everyday challenges,” Guzman said. “I am proud of what we were able to deliver for Reading and communities across the commonwealth by investing in the priorities that matter most and improving affordability.” The budget provides significant increases for local schools. Fortaleciendo la Seguridad Pública en nuestra comunidad Esta semana me reuní a agencias estatales y locales del orden público, junto al alcalde Eddie Moran, para dialogar sobre estrategias proactivas dirigidas a atender las recientes incidencias de violencia que están impactando nuestra comunidad. Quiero agradecer a la Policía Estatal de Pennsylvania, Liquor Control Enforcement, la Oficina del Fiscal de Distrito del Condado de Berks, los Detectives del Condado y al equipo directivo del Departamento de Policía de Reading por unirse en un esfuerzo conjunto para fortalecer la seguridad pública en la Ciudad de Reading. READING, May 13 — State Rep. Manuel Guzman, D-Berks, said today he convened a coordinated public safety meeting at his office with state and local law enforcement leaders and key justice partners to address the recent rise in violence in the city. “The safety of our families requires coordinated action across every level of government,” Guzman said, adding that he remains laser-focused on addressing the issue as a top priority. “We cannot normalize violence in Reading and across Berks County.” The meeting included Reading Mayor Eddie Moran; Berks County District Attorney John T.
