Shusterman announces $2.51 million grant for Route 23 safety improvements

PAOLI, Aug. 12 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, is proud to announce that $2.51 million has been awarded to a safety improvement project along Route 23.

This safety improvement project includes several enhancements by PennDOT, including signal upgrades, widening, and restriping the eastbound Route 23 approach to create an exclusive left-turn lane at the intersection with Township Line Road, and milling and overlaying the intersection. The project will also involve removing the existing median islands and reconfiguring the Route 23 (Nutt Road) and Route 113 (Bridge Street) intersection within the current road layout and milling and overlaying the intersection.

"The people of Schuylkill Township have been looking forward to these improvements for a long time,” Shusterman said. “Route 23 has been left neglected for far too long. I am relieved that these federal funds were secured and look forward to the people of Chester County benefiting from these safer roads at no additional cost to them."

The Route 23 corridor safety improvement project is set to begin this summer, with an expected completion in the fall of 2026. The project is financed with 100% previously awarded federal funds.
