Shusterman announces $1.65 million in grants to two Chester County projects

PAOLI, July 16 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, said she is proud to announce that $1.65 million has been awarded in RACP grants to two renovation projects in Chester County.

The funds are distributed as follows:

  • $850,000 to the Paoli Memorial Hospital for expanding the perinatal testing center with a new waiting and reception area, fully equipped exam and treatment rooms, dedicated clinical and staff support spaces, accommodations for healthcare providers and other essential infrastructure amenities.
  • $800,000 to the Schuylkill Township Municipal Complex for renovations and additions to expand police and administrative functions including locker rooms, restrooms, showers, secure storage rooms for evidence and ammunition, interview room, holding cell, modernized offices, flexible workstations and a large conference room.

“As our communities continue to thrive and grow, updating our facilities is necessary to provide services to the public,” Shusterman said. “As a result of hospital closures in our larger region, Paoli Hospital needs to expand its capacity to serve patients, and these funds will ensure our friends and neighbors can receive healthcare when they need it. Additionally, it’s time to improve the Schuylkill township municipal building so that the police department and local government space are both better suited to serve the township staff and residents for years to come.”

The funds came from the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, a Pennsylvania grant program for the design, acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects have a regional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity. RACP projects are state-funded projects that cannot obtain primary funding under other state programs.
