HARRISBURG, February 6 – Pennsylvania House Democratic Leaders today issued the following statement on Gov. Josh Shapiro’s 2024-25 state budget proposal, which makes important investments in education, jobs and communities, creating new opportunities for strengthening Pennsylvania without raising taxes: “Governor Shapiro laid out a comprehensive proposal that builds on last year’s historic investments in education while recognizing the important work of the Basic Education Funding Commission. House Democrats remain committed to fulfilling our constitutional and moral obligation to fund our public schools to ensure that every child, regardless of their ZIP code, has access to a quality public education. We look forward to working with the governor and our colleagues to deliver on that obligation. “As our economy continues to strengthen, this is a critical moment in time to invest in our workforce and economy. Governor Shapiro’s proposal prioritizes investments that will attract and retain businesses while growing our workforce. “We’re very encouraged that this plan makes key investments without raising taxes or diminishing our healthy surpluses. “To be clear, House Democrats insist that we fulfill our constitutional and moral obligation to fund our public schools; that we do more to invest in our colleges and universities; that we make smart investments to attract and retain businesses Read more

McClinton, Young and Williams applaud $250,000 for Bartram Garden Trail

(Jan 16, 2024)

HARRISBURG, Jan. 16 – State House Speaker Joanna McClinton, Rep. Regina Young, and Sen. Anthony Hardy Williams are applauding a $250,000 grant for the John Bartram Association in southwest Philadelphia. The association will use the grant to boost amenities along the popular Bartram Garden Trail that hosts thousands of local residents every year. The trail is used by walkers, runners and cyclists, and by people looking for a spot to fish or explore many parts of the garden. It is part of the larger Schuylkill River Trail. “The Bartram Garden Trail links our communities along the Schuykill River, so residents from different neighborhoods can enjoy and explore the outdoors together,” said McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware. “This significant funding will improve the trail so that it continues to be treasure that the entire region can enjoy for years to come.” “I'm thrilled that the John Bartram Association is getting this funding for increased trail amenities within Bartram's Garden,” said Young, D-Phila./Delaware. “This is a gem for our communities in Southwest Philadelphia, providing wide open green space, agricultural opportunities and a peaceful respite tucked in the boundaries of our city. As a member of the House Tourism and Economic and Recreational Development Committee, I'm always proud to promote and invest in these unique locations in our community.” Read more
