Happy Juneteenth!

This week, I was in Harrisburg to preside over the PA House. I joined members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus to commemorate Juneteenth and issue a call to action to the Senate to pass my K. Leroy Irvis Voting Rights Protection Act.

The bill, which would strengthen protections for all voters in the Commonwealth, passed the House over a year ago, but the Senate still refuses to take action. Contact Senate leadership to let them know that it is critical we make these policies law to protect our right to vote. I will continue the fight for equal rights in Pennsylvania this Juneteenth and every other day of the year.

Please note, my district office will be closed on June 19th as we celebrate the holiday.

Do You Know What an AI-Generated Deepfake is?

Attorney General Dave Sunday and I wrote an op-ed for the Philadelphia Inquirer about the harms of AI-generated explicit videos.

New technology makes it easy to create realistic-looking sexualized content—often targeting minors. These synthetic images are a deeply harmful invasion of privacy that can lead to lifelong trauma for victims.

I stand with Attorney General Sunday in condemning and combatting harmful AI-generated explicit content. We’ve implemented laws to make this type of harassment a crime, and are working to raise awareness among schools, parents and law enforcement to improve accountability. You can read our full op-ed here.

Keep Your EBT Card Safe from Skimmers

We have seen an uptick in calls about EBT card skimming. Skimming occurs when an illegal device attached to an ATM or pay terminal collects the cardholder's account information. Criminals then use that information to steal funds.

It is very important to protect your EBT card by locking it when it’s not in use. Cardholders can lock their EBT card using the ConnectEBT mobile app, then unlock it when they are ready to pay. This can help prevent any unauthorized transactions. You can find more information about spotting skimmers and locking EBT cards online.
