HARRISBURG, March 29 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, re-introduced legislation today that would expand and protect access to contraceptives. During the summer of 2020, a Supreme Court decision allowed virtually any employer to opt out of the Affordable Care Act mandate to provide contraceptive coverage if they object to birth control on religious or moral grounds. That ruling endangers the health and economic security of at least 2.5 million women in Pennsylvania who depend on this coverage for access to affordable, effective contraceptives. “Our bill, the bill we’re introducing today, House Bill 2454, would protect access to this important form of health care by making sure that individuals and insurers in Pennsylvania have to provide coverage for contraception,” said Krueger. “The medication that we are talking about today is used for birth control, but it is also medication that treats many other medical conditions.” Krueger was joined at today’s new conference by state Reps. Jennifer O’Mara, Morgan Cephas and Bridget Kosierowski; Lindsey Mauldin, vice president for advocacy and public policy, Planned Parenthood Southeastern Pennsylvania; and two Planned Parenthood patients. "Birth control is essential medication that treats serious conditions and allows people to plan if and when they get pregnant,” said Mauldin. “We support Representative Krueger’s legislation to expand access to Read more
FOLSOM, March 23 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger and state Sen. John Kane will host a free shredding and drug take back event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 23. The event will take place in the rear parking lot at Strath Haven High School, 205 S. Providence Road, Wallingford. Residents should enter from Brookhaven Road . Residents are invited to bring up to four boxes of documents to have them shredded on site. In addition, the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office will be on-site collecting unneeded medications for proper disposal. Electronics will not be accepted at this event. “I am happy to once again be able to host this event to help the residents of the 161 st District,” Krueger said. “Proper disposal of unneeded medications can prevent misuse and shredding old papers containing confidential information can help prevent identity theft. It’s my hope that this event makes it easier for constituents to discard their old papers and medications safely.” Kane said, “Shredding days are always our most well-attended events of the year. It’s a great opportunity for constituents to safely dispose of their confidential items, but it’s also a wonderful time to meet with our neighbors and interact with the district. I’m so proud to host this event with my friend and colleague, Representative Read more
