Steele: Allegheny Valley, Fox Chapel, Highlands school districts receive more than $650,000 in school safety grant funding

HARRISBURG, April 26 – State Rep. Mandy Steele announced today that $684,815 in school safety grant funding has been awarded to the Allegheny Valley, Fox Chapel and Highlands school districts.
Allegheny Valley School District received $320,250 in combined funding, while Fox Chapel School District received $196,561 and Highlands School District $168,004.
“School is one location where parents expect their children to be safe, but unfortunately, sometimes that’s not the case, so these grants will help give our schools the tools they need to be more effective when it comes to reducing violence,” said Steele, D-Allegheny. “These tools can range from safety and security assessments to conflict resolution, counseling services, staff training, and obtaining security-related technology.”
These grants are from $155 million school safety grant program package appropriated in the 2023-24 state budget and issued by the School Safety and Security Committee in January. The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency announced the remaining $47 million this week.

Funds will advance the PCCD’s School Safety and Security Committee’s goal of ensuring that all Pennsylvania students can learn in safe, healthy school environments by helping school entities address basic safety needs and mental health services.
