I have been meeting with residents who are concerned about the data center proposal in Springdale.
State Representatives do not have the authority to vote on specific projects like data centers. That responsibility falls to elected officials at the Borough and Township level, who decide which areas are zoned for which uses.
That said, Borough and Township officials have incredibly difficult—and often thankless—jobs. Our officials are very capable, some of the best I have known. They are carefully reviewing this proposal, but they are bound by a course of action if a project meets zoning standards. Local leaders should—and do—insist that any proposal meets the ordinance and adheres to the strictest standards for environmental protection and community safety.
In Harrisburg, we are working in a bipartisan manner to create legislation that will help protect communities by establishing frameworks around data centers. This legislation will ensure guidelines for environmental factors, water management, grid stability, transparency, and protections for ratepayers.
I do not have a vote on this project, but if it is approved, I will work tirelessly with developers, builders, and residents to ensure the best outcomes for our community. I will continue to fight for us at the state level and collaborate with local partners to get the most possible benefit for our area.
Please continue sharing your thoughts with me—it is important that I hear from you.
