Brian's Briefing for July 11: Check Out My PA250 Video Series! Plus, a legislative update and a scam to watch out for

Dear Neighbors,

It was my sixth straight week of voting session in Harrisburg, and I know many of you are eager to hear whether we’ve finally passed the state budget for 2025-2026. While we’re not there yet, I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to pass a fair and balanced budget soon. In the meantime, here are some bills we passed onto the Senate this week and how they work for you:

  • We're protecting consumers by requiring companies to provide notification before each automatic renewal, to be transparent about renewal terms, and to allow subscribers to cancel their subscription services exclusively online if they initially subscribed online (HB 1299).
  • We're protecting the safety of hotel workers by requiring hotel employers to provide devices that serve as “panic buttons” for employees working alone servicing guestrooms (HB 1358).
  • We're keeping campgrounds affordable by exempting privately owned campgrounds from local amusement and admission taxes (HB 1424).

In Service,

New Britain Township Fourth of July

Last Friday I enjoyed spending time with you at New Britain Township’s 4th of July parade! Three of my staff members and interns handed out candy to the crowd while I participated in the parade itself. Many thanks to the event organizers for putting together such a celebratory event, and to all of you for coming out to celebrate our nation and community. It was a pleasure to spend my day with you!

Bipartisan Law Enforcement Caucus Working for You

The House Law Enforcement Caucus recently met in Harrisburg for our quarterly meeting, where we discussed several bills and resolutions members of the group are working to pass. Some of the topics these bills cover include police-youth mentorship programs, extending death benefits for grieving police families, revising the rules around solitary confinement of juveniles, and creating fitness guidelines for enrolling in the police academy.

Brian Munroe or check these e-newsletters for the next installment.

Beware this REAL ID Scam

PennDOT wants to alert the public about a new texting scam involving REAL ID. Fraudulent text messages are being sent to customers claiming to be from the DMV or the federal Department of Homeland Security asking people to click on a link and provide personal and payment information.

PennDOT does not have a process by which customers can pre-scan and upload REAL ID documents from a home or mobile device. PennDOT will never ask for nor accept any identity documents over the internet, via text message or email for any reason. Any communications through text, internet or email requesting these documents are not affiliated with PennDOT and could be used for fraudulent purposes. As such, customers should not submit any images of personal documents to such requests.

To learn more about this scam or report it, visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website or report it to the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.

More information on obtaining a Real ID can be found on PennDOT’s REAL ID website.
