Brian's Briefing for July 4: Happy 4th! Plus, the House bans PFAS in firefighting foam!

Dear Neighbor,

Happy Fourth of July! I hope you have a chance to enjoy the holiday weekend with family, friends, and neighbors.

I’m happy to share with you today that earlier this week, the House passed my bill prohibiting the use of toxic PFAS chemicals in firefighting foam! Many of you are well aware of the negative impact PFAS have had on our community and of how hard my team and I have been working to get this bill to the Senate. Under House Bill 1261, firefighting foams containing PFAS will be banned throughout Pennsylvania, and units that have already purchased PFAS foams will be supported in safely disposing of them.

Our local fire departments have already made the switch to PFAS-free foams, and I’m so proud to finally see the potential for all of Pennsylvania to follow in their footsteps. It’s now up to the Senate to pass it into law.

As a former firefighter and veteran, it’s my honor to do the work it takes to get legislation like this passed, and to be able to share it with you as we celebrate the anniversary of the birth of our nation.

In service,

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is hosting a Fish for Free Day, giving both residents and non-residents the chance to fish legally on all Pennsylvania waterways without a fishing license.

Please remember that the PA Department of Environmental Protection has a "DO NOT EAT" advisory for all fish caught in our local waterways and throughout the Neshaminy Creek Basin, which includes Neshaminy Creek State Park and Tyler State Park.

All other fishing regulations still apply. For more information you can visit the Fish and Boat Commission.
