From the House Chamber to the heart of our community, it's been a week of celebrating women, advocating for better health care, and reminding one another just how powerful we can be when we stand together!
This week's update has a bit of a theme, and one that is especially close to my heart: WOMEN! ??
As a mom of four daughters, a woman navigating life's many stages myself, and a state representative, I know how important it is that women have a voice, access to good health care, and people in their corner who are willing to stand up for them.
From advancing legislation addressing menopause to recognizing an incredible breast cancer advocate right here in Horsham, there has been a lot happening that deserves some attention.
And because life shouldn't be all work and no fun, I'm sharing a little sisterhood from Harrisburg and a familiar furry female face from the district office, too!

?? Let's Talk About Menopause... Yes, Really!
|
Hot flashes. Brain fog. Sleepless nights. Mood changes. Sound familiar?
Ladies, can we talk about why something that affects millions of women is STILL something we don't talk about nearly enough?!
For generations, women have been expected to push through symptoms, figure things out on their own, and somehow keep everything running while their bodies are going through significant changes.
Well, I think it's long past time we changed that!
Menopause isn't just a women's health issue. It's a workplace issue, an economic issue, and a quality of life issue that deserves serious attention.
Consider these estimated impacts:
- ?? $26.6 BILLION in annual economic costs nationwide associated with menopause symptoms.
- ?? Women experiencing symptoms may see their earnings decline by approximately 10% within four years.
- ?? Pennsylvania experienced an estimated $215 MILLION in lost productivity in 2023.
Those numbers are staggering, but behind every statistic is a real woman trying to balance her health, her career, her family, and everything else life throws her way.
|
That's why I was proud to support House Bill 1411, the Menopause Education bill, which passed the Pennsylvania House with overwhelming bipartisan support 189-14! ??
The legislation now heads to the Senate and would help ensure women have greater access to reliable, science-based information about perimenopause and menopause, including symptoms, potential health risks, and available options.
Women deserve to understand what's happening to their bodies without spending countless hours searching for answers or wondering whether what they're experiencing is normal.
And here's something I especially want to emphasize: Women's health should never be an afterthought, regardless of age.
We deserve information. We deserve answers. And we deserve to be heard.
Menopause is a natural part of life. Being left in the dark about it shouldn't be! ??

?? A Horsham Woman Making a Difference in the Fight Against Breast Cancer
|
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and while pink ribbons are everywhere, I want to shine a spotlight on someone whose dedication to this cause goes far beyond the month of October.
Did you know that the founder of the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, Pat, is one of our very own Horsham neighbors?! ??
How incredible is that?!
Someone living right here in our community has dedicated so much of her life to advocating for women facing breast cancer, helping families navigate incredibly difficult circumstances, and fighting to improve awareness, education, and support.
It's a powerful reminder that people from our own neighborhoods can make an extraordinary difference far beyond our district.
I'm incredibly proud to have such a passionate advocate call Horsham home and join us in Harrisburg each October to turn the fountain pink and continue to raise awareness!
|
Breast Cancer Awareness Month also brings an important reminder that I hope every woman reading this takes to heart.
Please don't put your own health at the bottom of your to-do list!
As women, we can become so focused on taking care of everyone else that we forget to take care of ourselves.
Talk with your doctor about breast health and when you should begin mammograms. Pay attention to changes in your body. Encourage your mothers, sisters, daughters, friends, and coworkers to stay informed about recommended screenings.
Early detection can save lives, and conversations about breast health matter.
Whether you're a survivor, currently facing a diagnosis, supporting someone you love, or remembering someone you've lost, please know that you are not alone.
For helpful resources and information, visit www.pabreastcancer.org.
And to Pat, thank you for proving that one determined woman really can make an enormous difference. ??

?? Sisterhood, Support, and a Little Laughter in Harrisburg!
|
Now, before anyone thinks my time in Harrisburg is nothing but serious debates, committee meetings, and paperwork, I promise we manage to squeeze in a few laughs, too! ??
Serving in the Pennsylvania House is an incredible privilege, but it also comes with long days, tough conversations, and plenty of challenges.
Having strong women around you who understand the work, share your commitment to public service, and know when you need a little laughter makes all the difference.
I'm especially grateful for my fellow Reps. Johanny Cepeda-Freytiz and Liz Hanbidge, two wonderful colleagues who have become even better friends.
|
We may represent different communities and bring different experiences to the table, but we share a commitment to making Pennsylvania a better place for the people who call it home.
And honestly, sometimes having someone beside you who understands exactly what kind of day you're having is priceless!
There is something special about women encouraging one another, celebrating each other's successes, and offering support when things get difficult.
Strong women don't need to compete with one another to succeed. We can lift each other up, make room at the table, and accomplish even more together.
That's the kind of sisterhood I am grateful to be part of, both in Harrisburg and right here at home. ????

?? A Little Extra Love from Our District Office!
|
Of course, I can't wrap up this week's update without mentioning one of our favorite unofficial female office greeters!
If you've stopped by our district office, there's a chance you've already met Reese, who occasionally joins our welcoming committee! ????
While Reese may be more interested in collecting belly rubs than discussing legislation, she certainly knows how to make people smile.
And that brings me to something I never want anyone in our community to forget.
|
My office is YOUR office.
Whether you're having trouble navigating a state program, need assistance with a state agency, have questions about something happening in our community, or simply want to share an idea or concern, my team and I are here to help.
You don't need a special reason to reach out, and you certainly don't need to wait until something goes wrong.
We are here to listen, connect you with resources, and help you find answers.
And if Reese happens to be visiting, well, you might even get a little puppy love with your constituent services! ??
|
If there's one message I hope comes through in this week's update, it's that women's voices, experiences, and contributions matter at every stage of life.
Whether you're raising a family, caring for aging parents, building a career, navigating health challenges, enjoying retirement, or somehow juggling a little bit of everything, you deserve to feel supported, respected, and heard.
I want my daughters, and every young girl growing up in our community, to know that their voices matter and that there is no limit to what they can accomplish.
I'm grateful to represent a community filled with so many extraordinary women, and I'll continue working to make sure the issues affecting their lives receive the attention they deserve.
And to all the wonderful men who support, encourage, advocate for, and stand beside the women in their lives, thank you! You are an important part of this conversation, too.
Here's to strong women, healthier women, women supporting women, and a Pennsylvania where every woman has the opportunity to thrive! ??
Thank you, as always, for allowing me the privilege of representing you.
