Dear Friends,
Recently, I had the privilege of joining the Animal Protection Caucus for an in-depth tour of the Montgomery County SPCA. This experience was particularly meaningful to me, as I, like many of you, have heard troubling accounts about their organization in the past. These stories raised valid concerns about their practices, and I felt it was important to see firsthand the strides they have made to address and transform their operations.
During the visit, the members of the Southeast Delegation had the opportunity to engage in candid and thoughtful discussions with the dedicated team at the SPCA. We delved into their ongoing efforts to improve their facilities, as well as their vision for the future. I was encouraged to learn about numerous significant changes they have implemented, including a complete overhaul of their board. The new members, who bring fresh perspectives and unwavering commitment, are leading the charge to ensure the Montgomery County SPCA is an organization the community can be proud to support. Their devotion to enhancing the lives of the animals in their care extends beyond the shelter walls, as they also strive to strengthen their connection to the broader community.
|
One of the highlights of the visit was learning about the many improvements underway at the facility itself. From creating more comfortable and humane living spaces for the animals to implementing programs designed to address their physical and emotional needs, the SPCA is taking meaningful steps to prioritize the well-being of every animal that enters their care. Their vision extends beyond the immediate needs of these animals, focusing on long-term solutions that enhance their quality of life and increases their chances of finding loving, permanent homes. I was thrilled to hear that they are above a 90% “live exit” which puts them on level with other “no kill” shelters ensuring that they save every life possible.
Another inspiring aspect of their work is their commitment to community outreach and education. The SPCA is expanding initiatives to better engage with the public, including hosting events, offering workshops on responsible pet ownership, and providing resources to assist pet owners in need. These efforts reflect a deep understanding of the important role animals play in our lives and the bonds that enrich our communities.

Protecting and advocating for animals is a cause that resonates deeply with me. These creatures rely on us not only for their basic needs but also for compassion, care, and kindness. The Montgomery County SPCA's renewed dedication to their mission gives me hope for what we can achieve together. Their transformation is a reminder that positive change is always possible, and it takes all of us—individuals, organizations, and communities—working in harmony to create a better future for these voiceless members of our society.
As we continue to champion animal welfare in our community, I invite you to join us in this important work. Stay tuned for updates on initiatives and opportunities to get involved. Together, we can make a meaningful and lasting impact on the lives of the animals we cherish and the people who care for them.
Let’s keep striving to make a difference, one step at a time.

Child Abuse Prevention Month
|
Last week, we came together as a united community for the Montgomery Child Advocacy Project’s annual Wear Blue on the Steps event, marking Child Abuse Prevention Month. This is a time for reflection, action, and a pledge to protect the vulnerable. As a proud mother and a member of the House Children and Youth Committee, I am deeply committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our children. Child abuse is not just a statistic—it is silent suffering that no child should endure. Wearing blue during this observance is more than a gesture; it is a promise to speak up, protect, and advocate for those who cannot fight for themselves. Together, we can create a future where every child is safe, seen, and loved.

?????? Investing in Skills, Building Our Future ??????
|
I had an incredible experience touring the Steamfitters Local Union 420 Training Facility during their annual Industry Day! This hands-on learning hub is preparing the next generation of Pennsylvanians for in-demand, good-paying careers in the trades.
During the event, I joined Gov. Josh Shapiro, Mayor Cherelle Parker, and other leaders to celebrate union labor and apprenticeship programs. Union labor doesn’t just build structures—it builds stronger communities, delivering quality work and fair, family-sustaining wages.
|
A big thank-you to Steamfitters Local 420 for showcasing how their innovative training programs and future facility expansions are empowering workers and fueling economic growth across our region.
Let's continue to invest in the power of union labor and give more people pathways to success!

“An Evening with Eric Klinenberg” presented by Montgomery County Libraries was a countywide event hosted right here at Upper Dublin Public Library bringing together legislators and community leaders to celebrate the vital role libraries play in our communities.
Klinenberg’s powerful insights from his books Palaces for the People: How Social Infrastructure Can Help Fight Inequality, Polarization, and the Decline of Civic Life, and One City, Seven People, & the Year Everything Changed inspired important dialogue about building stronger, more connected communities. It was so cool to be a part of this event!

A special thank you to our guest speaker, state Rep. Madeleine Dean, for her thought-provoking contributions to this meaningful conversation. Let's continue to explore how libraries can unite us and make lasting positive impacts. ??
