HARRISBURG, Oct. 24 – State Reps. Leanne Krueger and David Delloso, both D-Delaware, announced today that the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority has approved a $16.45 million low-interest loan for the Central Delaware County Authority to replace sewer interceptors in Rutledge Borough. The Central Delaware County Authority said the existing sanitary sewer inceptors are 60 to 80 years old and made of reinforced concrete pipe. The pipe has many holes and cracks, which results in infiltration and inflow. Because of the increased cost of maintenance repairs, it is now more viable to re-line the interceptors rather than continuing repairs. “I am proud to have worked with the Central Delaware County Authority to secure this low-interest loan,” said Krueger. “Replacing these sewer pipes will save taxpayers money and benefit the environment be stopping untreated sewage discharge into the County’s waterways.” “The upkeep and repair for aging infrastructure costs more and more each year,” said Delloso. “Replacing this piping will benefit residents for generations to come. This past summer, Republicans in the Pennsylvania House and Senate rammed through a bill with several proposed constitutional amendments that would limit personal rights instead of protecting them. One of the amendments included in SB 106 would change the state constitution to say there is no constitutional right to an abortion in Pennsylvania. I spoke in opposition of the bill on the House floor the night it passed. If this proposed amendment were to succeed, it would create a pathway in our commonwealth to ban all abortions without any exceptions. A constitutional amendment goes through a different process than regular legislation. For a constitutional amendment to pass, the state House and Senate must vote on it in two consecutive legislative sessions and then it is placed on the ballot for voters to decide. Constitutional amendments cannot be vetoed by the governor. SB 106 passed through the General Assembly in July. If Republicans maintain control of both the House and Senate next year, SB 106 will likely be voted on again next session and voters could see it on the ballot as early as May 2023. KENNETT SQUARE, Oct. 21 – State Rep. Christina Sappey is pleased to announce Avondale Borough has been awarded $412,125 in state funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development . Danilo Burgos, D-Phila, and Manuel Guzman, D-Berks, today sent a letter to President Joe Biden requesting to waive the maritime shipment restrictions stated in the Jones Act to help restore power in Puerto Rico. In the aftermath of Hurricane Fiona, the island is struggling to get the necessary loads of fuel to move forward. The Jones Act requires that ships transporting goods between United States ports be made in America and owned by American companies. Brookhaven Borough received $211,140 through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Grant Program to i nstall field lighting at Samson and Memorial parks to allow both baseball and softball games to be played into the early evening hours.
