Shusterman celebrates $1.8 million in newly awarded grants

PAOLI, Jan. 20 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, is celebrating the delivery of nearly $1.8 million in grants awarded to various projects in the 157th Legislative District.

The funds are provided by the Commonwealth Financing Authority. The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides grants to encourage economic development and ensure that a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the Commonwealth. The PA Small Water and Sewer program provides townships and municipalities with the resources they need to ensure proper improvements are made to their sewer and water systems.

The grants were awarded as follows:

Multimodal Transportation Fund

  • $996,000 to Easttown Township for new sidewalks, ADA ramps and crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety around Beaumont Elementary School and Hilltop Park.
  • $124,000 to Schuylkill Township for intersection improvements at Pothouse Road and West Bridge Street/Charlestown Road.

PA Small Water and Sewer

  • $354,745 to Willistown Township for West Chester Pike sewer extension
  • $329,800 to Schuylkill Township for the Jug Hollow Road stormwater improvement project.

“I'm proud to bring back funds to invest in our community for these essential projects. Improving pedestrian safety around Beaumont Elementary is something that I have worked on for quite some time and I'm grateful these state funds were awarded to this worthy project. Our sewer and stormwater management systems are integral parts of our daily lives and continued investment is necessary,” Shusterman said. “It takes investment from state grants like these to ensure that people are safe at home, at work, and on our roads. I am thankful that the Commonwealth Financing Authority has fully funded these projects in my district.”
