E-Blast: PA Budget Impasse Comes to an End

My Thoughts on Passing the PA State Budget

We now have a state budget. I voted YES on this budget to invest in our students, vulnerable communities, working families, economy, and businesses. This plan increases education funding, preserves vital services, and does not raise taxes.

Together, we worked to compromise and pass a budget that helps all Pennsylvanians. It prioritizes our education system, infrastructure, and creates jobs. We're making sure PA's economy continues to grow and prosper - no matter what happens in Washington, D.C.

This Budget:

  • Increases education funding and improves access to school mental health services
  • Protects cyber charter school students by requiring the schools to ensure students’ cameras are on or to do in-person wellness checks
  • Helps working families by delivering $25 million for quality childcare workers
  • Invests in job creation and innovation
  • Aids our residents living with intellectual disabilities
  • Allocates more money to feed hungry Pennsylvanians
  • Supports people in crisis, ensuring they get the resources they need
  • And, invests in PA to fix roads & bridges, protect our air & water, and support local businesses

While we now have a budget, it never should have taken this long. Our schools, communities, and nonprofits suffered with this delay. Moving forward, I will continue to advocate for a more responsible budget timeline.

This budget focuses on working families, invests in schools, reflects responsible governance, and balances fiscal discipline with compassion.

Sincerely,

Rep. Melissa Shusterman
