E-Blast: SEPTA Latest, Upcoming Veteran's BBQ & more!

SEPTA Funding Advocacy - Tell me your SEPTA story!

My House colleagues and I continue to fight for adequate SEPTA funding. This week, there was a press conference in Philly to talk about how vitally important SEPTA transit is to our region – for our communities, our workers, our students, and our economy. How do YOU use SEPTA? How is SEPTA valuable to your business or household? Please share your SEPTA Story with my office by replying to this email or by calling us at 484-200-8260. I look forward to hearing from you!

May Session Highlights

My colleagues and I worked hard for our neighbors and the people of Pennsylvania in the month of May!

My legislation, House Bill 630, passed out of the House! This bill would modernize Pennsylvania’s Equal Pay laws so that we can finally close the gender-pay gap, allowing women to truly benefit from equal pay for equal work! We also passed the Working Pennsylvanians Tax Credit, which would create a state version of the federal earned income tax credit (EITC), which reduces taxes and cuts costs for working families!

Other votes included:

  • YES to a SEPTA Funding bill in the Transportation Committee
  • YES to justice for sexual assault survivors in the Judiciary Committee
  • YES to Speaker McClinton’s Voting Rights Protection Act in the State Government Committee. This bill provides comprehensive updates and improvements to election laws in PA!
  • YES as H.B. 433 passed the House. This bill would require insurance coverage without cost-sharing of advanced diagnostic imaging for breast exams.
  • YES as H.B. 79 passed the House. It would require increased uniformity and transparency for hospital financial assistance programs.
  • YES in the State Government Committee to approve legislation allowing independent voters to participate in spring primary elections. H.B. 280 would enable more than 1.3 million registered Pennsylvanians, and over 54,000 Chester County residents, not affiliated with either political party to vote in a Democratic or Republican primary.

Sincerely,

Rep. Melissa Shusterman
