SEPTA Service Cuts Update

Yesterday, I joined my colleagues from the legislature for a press conference on the crucial need to properly fund SEPTA. SEPTA is vitally important to the lives of the residents of Chester County. Our economy depends on SEPTA's regional rail line to attract and keep families and businesses in our community. Residents depend on SEPTA to travel to medical appointments, work, school and entertainment events. It’s unfathomable to think of life in our area without the Paoli-Thorndale line, and we must do absolutely everything we can to adequately fund SEPTA.

My colleagues in the state House have voted three times to give SEPTA the funding it needs to continue operations in Paoli, Chester County, and the rest of the Greater Philadelphia Area. The State Senate leadership needs to follow up, or these proposed cuts will become reality. You can read more about the issue and how we plan to fight it through the link here.

Primary Election Deadlines

The Municipal Primary Election is coming up on May 20, so ensure you are registered to vote today before the deadline of May 5. PA holds closed primary elections, which means you must be a registered Republican or Democrat to vote for that party’s nominees. It takes only a few minutes to register to vote, update your registration, or check your voter registration status online

If you plan on voting by mail, the deadline to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot is 5 p.m. on May 13. For information on how to apply, go to the Department of State’s website. When completing an application for a mail-in ballot, voters have the option to receive a mail-in ballot for the primary and general elections or apply for each election individually.

Sincerely,

Rep. Melissa Shusterman
