HOUSE GAME AND FISHERIES COMMITTEE UPDATE

As the chair of the House Game and Fisheries Committee, I’d like to update you on our latest voting meeting.

House Bill 1431, which would repeal the ban on Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania and allow the PA Game Commission to decide the number of Sunday hunting days, was reported out of the committee by an 18-8 vote. As many hunters know, currently there are only three Sundays allowed for hunting. The legislation would also streamline the process for farmers to report crop damage by deer and strengthen trespass penalties. House Bill 1431 now moves to the Pennsylvania House for consideration.

Other legislation reported out of the committee includes allowing in-state hunting licenses for out-of-state college students (HB 1507) and the protection of hunters’ Fifth Amendment rights (SB 518).

DELIVERING FOR YOU IN HARRISBURG

I’m back in Harrisburg for another busy session week. I want to highlight some of the important bills that my House colleagues and I recently passed to help our neighbors and improve our communities:

We’re ensuring access to affordable health care by requiring health insurance coverage for contraceptives (HB 1140).

We’re protecting consumers by banning “speculative ticketing,” a practice that allows unofficial sellers to list tickets for sale even though they do not actually possess – and may never have - those tickets (HB 463).

We’re supporting seniors and individuals with disabilities who qualify for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program by permitting these rebate payments to be issued at any time after an application is filed and approved by the Department of Revenue instead of having to wait until July 1 or later to receive their rebates (HB 1072).

AROUND THE CAPITOL

Session days in June are busy meeting with interesting people who come to the Capitol to advocate for those they represent.

I was very pleased to meet with representatives from the United Auto Workers, who represent a variety of workers across the Commonwealth.

I also had the pleasure of meeting with nurses representing the members of PaSNAP to discuss important issues in the nursing and healthcare fields.
