Krueger announces nearly $886K in state grants for projects in her district

HARRISBURG, March 26 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, today announced that $885,906 in state grant funding is headed to pedestrian safety projects in the 161st Legislative District she represents.

The grants, which come from the Department of Community and Economic Development’s Multimodal Transportation Fund, may be used for the development, rehabilitation and enhancement of transportation assets to existing communities, streetscape, lighting, sidewalk enhancement, pedestrian safety, connectivity of transportation assets and transit-oriented development.

The following were awarded:

  • $377,706 to Aston Township for pedestrian crosswalk improvements at Concord Road’s Five Points Intersection.
  • $300,000 to Delaware County to continue Phase II work of the Chester Creek Trail located in Aston Township.
  • $208,200 to Nether Providence Township to install flashing beacons near Wallingford Elementary School.

“All of these projects represent the continuing hard work of local officials in partnership with the state to invest in the safety and well-being of pedestrians, our students and communities as a whole,” Krueger said.

“I am particularly excited to see all the progress being made on the Chester Creek Trail, which I have been happy to support since my first day in office. This rail trail has been a labor of love for the many people, organizations and public officials involved in its development, and I am delighted to help bring money back for this project and others in our region,” she said.

Krueger announced $75,000 in state funding in January for the Chester Creek Trail - Knowlton Road Trailhead Expansion. Just last month the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission announced it had awarded $1.5 million for Phase 2 construction from federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act funds.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the grants this morning. The authority was established in 2004 as an independent agency of DCED to administer Pennsylvania’s economic development programs.
