Honoring Martin Luther King Jr., updates for students, and more

Dear Neighbor,

January has been a busy month so far. While I am not scheduled for a voting session in Harrisburg until January 26, I’ve been staying active here in the district—meeting with constituents in my office and attending community events and local meetings. I always enjoy being out in the community and connecting with neighbors and local leaders.

Yesterday, we celebrated the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I had the opportunity to help connect Dennis Owens from ABC27 in Harrisburg with local experts to discuss Dr. King’s connection to Delaware County while he attended Crozer Seminary in Upland Borough. I am grateful to the local residents working to preserve this important site, which is located on the grounds of the former Crozer-Chester Medical Center, whose hospital closed last year.

Last week, I had a great time in Harrisburg attending the Pennsylvania Farm Show and taking part in the Celebrity Feed Scurry. Wendy from my Brookhaven office joined me, and I was grateful to have her there—her energy and teamwork made the event even more fun. The Farm Show is always a fantastic way to showcase Pennsylvania agriculture and celebrate the hardworking people who make it such an important part of our Commonwealth. If you haven’t had a chance to attend, be sure to add it to your Pennsylvania Bucket List for next year!

PA House Legislative Fellowship Program

Applications for the Summer 2026 Pennsylvania House of Representatives Legislative Fellowship Program are now being accepted.

House Fellows work with legislative committees or House Leadership offices to gain hands-on experience—drafting and presenting legislation, attending meet-and-greets with public officials and staff, and more! It’s an excellent introduction to the day-to-day workings of the legislature for undergraduate, graduate, and law students interested in a career in state government.

Applications for the summer semester are due Monday, March 2. The 2026 program runs from Thursday, June 4, through Thursday, August 6, and all fellowships are based in Harrisburg.

 Qualified applicants will be:

  1. College undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or law school students;
  2. Enrolled in a Pennsylvania college/university, or a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in an out-of-state institution; and
  3. Pursuing any major with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

If you know of any college students who would benefit from the Fellowship Program, please invite them to visit the website at: www.pahousefellowship.us. Applications can be submitted via email to: pahousefellowship@pabmc.net.

Unity breakfast in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I joined community members and fellow elected officials in Upper Darby for a unity breakfast honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King, hosted by the YMCA of Eastern Delaware County. We were privileged to hear from guest speaker Dr. Marta Yera Cronin, President of Delaware County Community College. The quote from Dr. King that greeted us from the stage— “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”—is one I’m reflecting on this week.

Aston Township celebrates new municipal building

Last Friday, I was honored to join Aston Township officials, elected leaders, and community members for a ribbon-cutting celebrating the Township’s new administration offices and the new home of the Aston Township Police Department. This state-of-the-art facility is an important investment in our community, and I’m proud to have helped secure $1.1 million in state grant funding to support its construction. I’ll never forget the day I got the call that the previous municipal building had black mold, leading to unsafe conditions for police officers and other municipal employees. I was glad to support this project to create a safe workspace for Aston police and a gathering space for the Aston community.

Delaware County gears up for America’s 250th
