Dear neighbor,
Before I get into this week’s updates from Harrisburg, I want to remind you about my upcoming workshop, How to Apply for State Grants & Funding Resources on Friday, October 9, from 10 AM – noon at the Brookhaven Municipal Center. Community groups often reach out to me to ask about best practices for applying for state grants so we’re bringing the experts to Delco. This workshop is designed to help nonprofit organizations and local municipalities learn how to find state grant opportunities and successfully apply for other funding resources. To register call 610-534-6880 or email RepKrueger@pahouse.net.

Friendly Reminder: The voter registration deadline is less than 2 weeks away! October 19th is the last day to register to vote in the General Election. Don't let your voice go unheard this November 3rd.

No Time for a Pause: Rally for Menopause Legislation
|
Last Tuesday, I joined my colleagues at the Capitol to highlight the “No Time for a Pause” package of legislation focused on improving support for women experiencing perimenopause and menopause.
Too many women struggle to find reliable information, appropriate treatment and the support they need during this stage of life.
Women deserve to feel heard and supported at every stage of life. I’m proud to support efforts that empower women to talk about their menopause and perimenopause symptoms, improve access to comprehensive care and make sure women have the resources and support they need.

A more welcoming Capitol for Nursing Moms
|
I was proud to unveil a new nursing pod at the Capitol last Wednesday, alongside my colleagues and partners. My Harrisburg staff and I have been working with the Department of General Services for nearly two years to create a more accessible and welcoming Capitol experience for families who visit the Capitol.
We’ve heard directly from moms about the challenges of finding a safe and comfortable place to nurse or pump while visiting the Capitol. This new wheelchair accessible nursing pod provides families with a private, dedicated space and features the amenities needed to comfortably nurse or pump, including a comfortable seat, electrical outlet, USB charging port and shelving. It is also large enough to accommodate strollers, diaper bags and other essentials families may have with them.
Families visiting the Capitol should be able to enjoy their time there without worrying about finding a safe and private place to care for their baby. I’m happy that we were able to make this important resource available to visitors and employees. The pod was made possible with support from the Shapiro Administration.

Delco’s Own Keep Music Alive brings the joy of music to the Capitol
|
It was great to have Brookhaven-based nonprofit Keep Music Alive at the Capitol yesterday for a special Musical Instrument Petting Zoo as part of the celebration of Kid’s Music Day! I also had the pleasure of recognizing founders Vincent James and Joann Pierdomenico in the House chamber with a citation honoring Kid’s Music Day in Pennsylvania and their work to bring the joy of music to communities.
Keep Music Alive is dedicated to promoting music as an educational, therapeutic and social tool. I was proud to bring a little bit of Delco to Harrisburg and highlight the importance of music with people of all ages.

Tax Billionaires, Fund PA
|
Last week, I met with members of the Tax Billionaires, Fund PA coalition in Harrisburg to discuss H.B. 1678, The Digital Ad Tax, and the need to find new ways to bring revenue back to Pennsylvania.
I was proud to support H.B. 1678 when it passed the House with bipartisan support earlier this year. The bill would tax revenue from digital advertising and dedicate that money to property tax relief for seniors.
I appreciated the opportunity to hear from advocates and continue the conversation about making sure our state has the resources to support Pennsylvania families and communities.

Women Business Leaders Visit the State Capitol
|
Yesterday in Harrisburg, I met with advocates for Women Mean Business Advocacy Day to talk about the issues impacting women across Pennsylvania.
They were at the Capitol to advocate for access to capital for women entrepreneurs, pay equity, maternal health care, childcare and paid family leave. These policies have a direct impact on women, their families and their ability to succeed in our communities and economy.
I appreciated the opportunity to hear directly from women leaders and discuss how we can continue working together to support women across the Commonwealth.

With the House back in session last week, we passed several bills focused on protecting Pennsylvanians, expanding access to health care and giving more people a voice in our elections. Here are a few of the bills we advanced that I want to highlight:
|
HB 280 would allow open primaries in PA to give unaffiliated voters the opportunity to make their voice heard.
HB 1925 would require patients to be informed when AI is used in their health care or insurance decisions and ensure that final decisions about patient care and coverage are made by people, not AI.
HB 2006 would establish safeguards for AI companion apps, including protections related to self-harm and crisis situations. It would also clearly disclose when someone is interacting with AI rather than a person and direct users to crisis resources like 988 Lifeline when appropriate.
HB 2649 requires insurance coverage for fertility preservation for patients undergoing treatments that could cause infertility.
HB 2653 would help increase access to mental health care by requiring insurers to accept behavioral health providers who agree to the insurer’s terms and reimbursement rates.

Flagpole dedication along the Chester Creek Trail
|
On Thursday, I had the pleasure of attending a flagpole dedication along the Chester Creek Trail at the Mount Alverno Trailhead. I’m grateful to the Friends of the Chester Creek Trail for their ongoing efforts to support this public space.
The newly installed flagpole is a wonderful addition to the trail and our community. Boy Scouts from Troop 225 joined the ceremony, along with a bagpiper from the Delaware County Park Police, to help mark the occasion. Thank you to everyone who helped make this special dedication possible.

Discussing housing needs in our communities
|
Last week I met with Johanna Byrd, Policy Director for the Housing Alliance of Pennsylvania; Amy Lomarnicki and Misty Farrow with Media Fellowship House; and Beth Smith with the Affordable Housing Group in Media Borough to discuss housing issues affecting our communities.
We talked about HB 2186, which would address barriers to accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and help expand housing options in Pennsylvania, as well as the broader need for more affordable and accessible housing.
The House passed HB 2186 with bipartisan support this June, and the bill is now awaiting consideration in the Senate. I appreciate the opportunity to hear directly from local advocates and community members about housing needs and the work being done right here in Delaware County.

Supporting the future of healthcare in Delaware County
|
On Friday, I was proud to join my colleagues Rep. Lisa Borowski, Rep. Jennifer O’Mara, Sen. Tim Kearney and Sen. John Kane to present Riddle Hospital with $4 million in state funding to support the future of health care in Delaware County.
We presented the funding to Main Line Health President and CEO, Ed Jimenez and Riddle Hospital President, Jim Paradis. This $4 million investment will help Riddle Hospital support nurses and technicians as they work to meet the growing demand for health care services in Delaware County and explore other locations in Delaware County.
I’m proud to have worked with my colleagues to help bring this important state funding back to our community and support the health care professionals who care for our residents every day.

Trout stocking with the Delco Anglers
|
I joined my staff member Wendy on Friday for a beautiful day of trout stocking with the Delco Anglers and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, helping to stock Ridley Creek with rainbow trout!
The Delco Anglers are part of Pennsylvania’s Cooperative Fish Nursery Program, and it was great to learn more about the important work they and other volunteers do to stock our waterways and preserve and expand fishing opportunities in our communities.
Thank you to the Delco Anglers, The PFBC, and to everyone who came out to lend a hand.

Aston Township Community Day fun!
|
This past Saturday, my staff and I had a great time at Aston Township Community Day! The morning kicked off with a parade from Neumann University to the community center. We then joined community members, along with the local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, for the opening ceremony before enjoying the rest of the day’s festivities.
It was a wonderful day filled with community spirit and plenty of fun. Thank you to everyone who helped make Aston Community Day such a great event!
