HARRISBURG, April 20 – State Rep. Liz Hanbidge, D-Montgomery, today announced the awarding of $770,000 in grant funding to the borough of North Wales to further enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility. The grants were awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s Surface Transportation Block Grant program Set-Aside or Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside. Assisting the Department of Transportation in reviewing applications and determining recipients were the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, state Department of Health, and three Metropolitan and Rural Planning Organizations . Additionally, more than half the 64 projects spread out over 34 counties were funded through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. “Assuring the safety of pedestrians who utilize our roadways to go about their daily lives was one of a whole host of important initiatives that were propelled by the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law,” Hanbidge said. “These grant dollars will go toward the necessary expansion and accessibility of two sections of roadway in Montgomery County, which see heavy foot traffic.” The award will be used to install pedestrian facilities along Center Street from Walnut Street (SR 2010) to Washington Avenue and from Shearer Street to Montgomery Avenue with the underlying goal of making these sections more pedestrian-friendly. HARRISBURG, March 14 – State Rep. Liz Hanbidge, D-Montgomery, today announced a $30,000 grant has been awarded to the Wissahickon Valley Historical Society. The grant was awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and will go toward repairs to the historic Franklinville School. “Since 1858, the Franklinville School has withstood the test of time, and has remained an integral part of Montgomery County’s story for the last 164 years,” Hanbidge said. “These grant dollars will make certain that this historic building continues to be deeply woven into the fabric of our community for generations to come.” The award will be used to offset the cost of necessary repairs to the building, including renovations to the roof, porches, and HVAC, along with cosmetic upgrades. These grants were awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Bureau of Library Development, which is funded from a portion of the state’s realty transfer tax. “Unfettered access to high-quality public libraries has been a part of our commonwealth’s story since its inception,” Hanbidge said. “These grant dollars will go toward ensuring residents in the 61 st Legislative District continue to have an avenue to obtain the vital services offered by our public libraries here in Montgomery County.” The award will be used to offset the cost of necessary repairs to the building, including replacing the roof and insulation, with the goal of making the library more energy efficient.
