Approving workplace protection bills before the new year

Dear Neighbor,

 

Every once in a while, I like to update you on a few bills that my colleagues and I in the House have passed recently.

 

I am especially proud of two bills, HB 1825 and HB 1826, that strengthen our workplace harassment and discrimination law. The first one has already passed in the House and the second likely will soon.

 

  • The law currently lacks protections for employees working in agriculture and domestic service. HB 1825 would remove these exemptions, as well as exemptions for workplaces with fewer than four employees. Just because you work in a certain industry, or at a small business, should never mean you are allowed to be mistreated.
  • HB 1826 would ensure employers have written policies and procedures for preventing harassment, discrimination, and retaliation against employees. This way both employers and employees are clear on what the policies are and what the procedure is for handling violations.

As you know, I was a Teamster for pretty much my entire adult life. I am always happy to support legislation that protect Pennsylvania’s workers and allow them dignity and prosperity. Now it’s time for the Senate to act and vote for these important bills.

We have 2024 Property Tax/Rent Rebate booklets. Just ask my staff at either of our district offices in Ridley Park or Darby Township. As a reminder, my staff is happy to assist you with the rebate application process. Applications for a rebate on what you paid in 2024 are due by Dec. 31.
