Dear Neighbor,
I won’t sugarcoat it: this is a sad week for Delaware County.
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania provided $10.2 million to keep Crozer open. The county provided $9.8 million. Penn gave $5 million. And the Foundation for Delaware County gave another $20 million.
And still, Crozer Health System is closing.
Even after these millions in aid, Crozer remained in so much debt that no one wanted to buy them. After all, who would want to take on a project that could only last a few months?
I believe Prospect Holdings deserves all the blame for taking our community hospitals and sucking all the profit they could out of them, leaving us to clean up the mess. They’ve done the same thing in other states, too. I deeply lament that no one will be jailed over this injustice committed on the good people of the 162nd Legislative District.
Now more than ever I will be seeking support for our emergency services providers, including local police departments, fire stations, and EMS providers.
Here is what we currently know:
- Taylor Hospital, including its ER, is planned to close Friday, April 25th.
- Crozer Hospital will close on Friday, May 2nd, but its ER will close April 30th.
- Both Taylor and Crozer Hospital ERs are on diversion. Patients who walk up will be treated and released OR treated and transferred. No admissions.
- MainLine Health and Mercy Fitzgerald have staffed up their Emergency Operating Centers. Riddle has opened overflow capacity in its ER.
You can still call 911 for emergency services. There is a dedicated website for information and updates. PACareerLink Delco and the PA Department of Labor & Industry are working together to help former Crozer workers find new employment -- see the details in the next story below.
Prospect has established a call center for inquiries about the transition, including questions about patient transfer and care: (888) 801-2338. You can also email: CrozerPAInquiries@omniagnt.com.
