Next steps for SEPTA

Dear Neighbor,

My office has received a large volume of messages and questions about SEPTA funding. No doubt you’ve heard the dire forecasts about fare increases, service cuts, and even the elimination of some train and bus lines.

I know that SEPTA is not just a “Philly thing.”  It’s extremely important for residents in our district and Delaware County as a whole. A few of you have expressed that service cuts may force you to move or find a new job.

Please know that I absolutely support giving SEPTA as much funding from the Commonwealth as it needs.

There is still time to turn this around. The proposed changes at SEPTA are set to occur in the fall and it is still very early in the budget season.

I will continue to persuade my colleagues in the PA House to support Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget proposal, which would provide $292.5 million to public transit throughout the Commonwealth, including $165 million to SEPTA.

You may click here to send a message to the Senate, encouraging them to fully fund the SEPTA transportation we rely on.

Sincerely,

Pennsylvania State Rep. David M. Delloso

FYI

Real ID Enforcement Begins May 7 – BUT if you’re not flying or visiting a U.S. government building, you’ve still got some time

As of May 7 you will need a Real ID, valid U.S. Passport or Military ID to board a domestic airline flight or visit a federal government building.

A lot of people are worrying about the deadline and rushing – and waiting in long lines -- to get their Real ID right now. But, if you don’t already have a flight scheduled or have no need to visit a federal government building after May 7, your regular PA Driver’s License or non-driver photo ID will keep working just fine.

Make no mistake, you don’t have to get a Real ID to drive, apply for state benefits or a lot of things. If you’re planning on traveling by plane and want to continue using your state driver’s license or photo ID as identification at the airport, however, you will eventually need to upgrade to a REAL ID-compliant version and should get one as soon as it’s convenient.

But, for now, unless you’ve got plane tickets already booked for a Memorial Day Weekend getaway you can probably wait for the crowds to die down.
