Citing state data, Venkat said Pennsylvania has more than 1.1 million small businesses employing more than 2.5 million workers and that small businesses represent 99.6% of all businesses in the commonwealth. Read more

“Nearly 50% of deaths caused by food allergies occurred at restaurants,” Venkat said. “To prevent such deaths, we must improve food safety at restaurants by increasing awareness about food allergies and ensuring restaurants have staff available with the necessary knowledge to avoid cross-contamination, and asking customers to notify restaurants about any food allergies they may have.” Read more

Venkat’s legislation would prohibit health insurers or their contracted vendors that initiate payments to participating health care providers from requiring the use of an electronic credit card with a fee to transmit payment to the health care provider without the provider’s consent. Read more
