Steele: Protect your personal information at my shredding event Saturday

CHESWICK, April 29 – To help residents safeguard their personal and financial data, Rep. Mandy Steele, D-Allegheny, will host a paper shredding event from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 4.

“More than 10 million Americans each year have their personal information stolen, and that can lead to a financial nightmare for victims,” Steele said. “Identity thieves use the information they’ve obtained illegally to open bank accounts or credit cards or even health care benefits and government assistance. One way to protect yourself is by making that information harder to get.”

The shred event provides an opportunity for members of the community to safely dispose of documents containing personal information, thereby protecting them from potential identity theft.

Constituents should pull up in their vehicles with items prepared for removal. Steele and her staff will unload documents from the car, and the materials will be immediately shredded on site. Bags and boxes will be returned to the car after they are emptied.

“I’m happy to offer this essential service to our community and I hope folks take advantage of this opportunity on Saturday to protect their personal, financial information,” Steele said.

This event is for individuals only, not businesses. For more information, contact Steele’s Cheswick office at 724-826-5151.
