I appreciate everything our veterans have done in service to our country, which is why I host an annual Veterans’ Dinner to say thank you and provide veterans with up-to-date information on the services available to them. This year’s dinner will be held on Wednesday, November 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Springdale Veterans Association.

The menu will include baked skinless chicken, roast beef au jus, penne with tomato sauce, dill-and-onion roasted potatoes, Italian vegetable medley, garden salad, rolls with butter, cheesecakes, and beverages including coffee, tea, water, and soft drinks.

Election deadlines: Make your voice heard

Pennsylvania will hold municipal and judicial elections on November 4, so it’s time to consider how to make your voice heard. First, make sure you’re registered—you have until October 20.
If voting in person doesn’t fit your schedule, PA offers dependable vote-by-mail options. The deadline to apply for a mail-in or absentee ballot is October 28. Get more info on voting by mail here from www.pa.gov.

Supporting the striking workers at Greco Steel

Right here in our own backyard, workers are on strike. The employees at Greco Steel want to discuss safety conditions with management—understandably so, after a tragic workplace death in 2023. I fully support the workers in their efforts. Greco Steel, it’s time to come to the table!

Seniors: Are you eligible for prescription assistance?
|
|
|
|
PACE and PACENET are the state’s prescription programs that help cover the cost of medication for eligible residents age 65+. There are income limits which are listed above.

Veterans Can Get Free Vaccines for Pets
|
|
|
|
Animal Friends will support veterans and current service members by providing free vaccinations for their cats and dogs. They will be at the Alco Parking Red Lot 7C, 630 Scotland Ave., Pittsburgh, on October 30, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Proof of military or veteran status will be required. No appointments are necessary. Microchips and treatment for fleas and ticks will also be available at extra cost.

October is Domestic Violence Prevention Month, and I want to let you know that Pennsylvania offers free resources, services, and support for victims and survivors of domestic violence.

Pittsburgh’s Annual Gingerbread Display and Competition
|
|
People from Allegheny County and beyond are invited to build their own edible houses as Pittsburgh’s Gingerbread House Competition returns this holiday season! All eligible entries will be displayed from Light Up Night through early January. Registration is open through November 9.

Students: Tap your artistic skills for this activity book cover
|

The PA Auditor General’s office is seeking K–12 students from Pennsylvania to design the cover of its new Be Money $mart activity book. The winning design will be featured on the front cover of the book, which will be unveiled at the 2026 PA Farm Show and distributed to libraries, YMCAs, and other organizations across the state.
