Third, LIHEAP details:
Pennsylvania has not yet received its federal allocation for 2025-26 Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds as a result of the federal shutdown. Because of this, DHS will be unable to open the LIHEAP season on November 3rd, 2025, as scheduled.
At this time, DHS is planning to open LIHEAP applications for the 2025-26 season on December 3rd, 2025. This date may change should funding be received or if the federal government shutdown continues into November.
Stay tuned!

Yesterday, my team and I visited the Samuel A. Green House, an affordable housing option for seniors aged 62+, located in Elkins Park. If you're not familiar with it, it's a wonderful community.
We had the opportunity to engage with the residents about senior benefits, budgeting, and the resources available to them. The welfare of our seniors, both now and in the future, is critically important to me. During our visit, we met veterans, new residents, and some enthusiastic bingo players. It was a fantastic gathering of community members at Samuel A. Green House.
The diversity of the residents, who come from all walks of life, makes this senior living facility truly special, and we look forward to visiting again soon. Keep an eye on my emails for where we'll be next!

Due to the federal government shutdown that began on October 1st, 2025, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has informed Pennsylvania that November SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits cannot be issued at this time.
This is a nationwide issue affecting all SNAP households and cannot be appealed.
??If you currently have SNAP benefits on your EBT card, you can continue to use them to buy food.
??November SNAP benefits will not be issued unless the federal government provides new guidance.
??State and county agencies do not have additional details yet, but updates will be shared as soon as they are available.
??Applications for SNAP are still being accepted. If you were considering applying, do not let the shutdown discourage you. Submitting your application now ensures it can be processed once benefits resume.

LIHEAP Opening is Delayed
|
Due to the federal government shutdown, Pennsylvania’s 2025–26 LIHEAP season is delayed until December 3rd, 2025. LIHEAP provides federally funded heating assistance directly to utility companies or fuel providers for eligible low-income households—helping over 300,000 families each year.
While the shutdown prevents LIHEAP payments, electric and gas companies still offer utility assistance programs, and the state’s winter shutoff moratorium (December 1st–March 31st) protects qualifying customers from disconnection. For immediate help, visit PA Navigate ( https://pa-navigate.org/) or call 211.
You can find more information at the DHS website here.

Pennie (ACA) is on the Chopping Block
|
Unless the U.S. Congress acts, enhanced premium tax credits for Marketplace (ACA) insurance will expire on December 31st.
This means starting with open enrollment on November 1st, many Pennsylvanians could see their monthly premiums increase by up to 82%.
Nearly 500,000 Pennsylvanians rely on Pennie for affordable coverage — including small business owners, gig workers, farmers, early retirees, and those on COBRA. Without these credits, some premiums could double or even quadruple, putting coverage out of reach for nearly 250,000 people.
Pennie remains the only place to get plans with:
Out-of-pocket cost caps.
No annual or lifetime limits.
Pre-existing condition coverage.
If you have Pennie coverage and want help navigating open enrollment, visit Pennie’s Help Center at pennie.com/connect to connect with local certified assisters and brokers, or call 1-844-844-8040 (M–F, 8:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.).
