The Eagles again. The Flyers lost. The Phillies season is over.
There’s no State budget. There’s no Federal budget. The deer keep eating the fava plants I seeded to add nitrogen to my garden. I’m a bit grumpy at the moment!
This is exactly why I love having a High Note section of the newsletter. I want to double up on that today.
In my newsletter on August 15th, I mentioned my frustration at not having answers for residents on Cheltenham Avenue in the La Mott neighborhood that have been dealing with flooding caused by inadequate stormwater management systems. This issue was raised to me several years ago and I hadn’t been able to fix it.
I am thrilled to announce that we have secured a Montgomery County grant for nearly $300,000 to install a new stormwater network in this area to include new curbs, gutters, inlets and storm sewers. Keep an eye out for a community meeting to provide more information, but help is finally on the way!
I also want to spend a special Thank You to the team at PennDOT. I know how frustrating road closures are, and I know how much angst the light timing along Bethlehem Pike in Springfield has been, but the folks at PennDOT have been super helpful in aggressively increasing their road paving operations in this district. There are still plenty of terrible stretches of roadway (I’m looking at you Church Road from Chelten Hills Drive to Meetinghouse or Church and High School roads), but the ride along Willow Grove Avenue, Ashbourne Road, Pennsylvania Avenue, Church and Cedar, and so many other stretches is smoother now. This is the result of a good partnership!
Keep reporting the bad roads to us, and we’ll keep getting PennDOT out to fix them. P.S., if you’re looking for work, PennDOT is looking for you!

We were back in Harrisburg this week and passed yet another budget bill over to the state Senate, along with several other pieces of legislation. Included in those was a resolution, H.R. 288, that designates Monday, October 13th as the “250th Birthday of the United States Navy” in PA.
The Philly region is hosting a weeklong celebration honoring 250 years of service from our Navy and Marine Corps, and H.R. 288 reflects the PA General Assembly’s formal birthday card! I, of course, voted in favor of the resolution!!!

As part of the US Navy and Marine Corps 250th anniversary celebration, military aircraft will be performing ceremonial flyovers at low altitude in our area this weekend (Saturday 10/11, Sunday 10/12, and Monday 10/13).
Current plans call for multiple rounds of flyovers each day: late morning, midday, and early afternoon.
Aircraft will likely be visible in central, eastern, and southern Montgomery County, as well as across the region. Please do not call 9-1-1 to report these flyovers.
Thank you to all of our brave service members, past and present, who protect our freedom and keep us safe!

As the weather cools down and we spend more time indoors, Fire Prevention Week is a good reminder to stay alert to common household fire hazards. Simple precautions can make all the difference in keeping your home and family safe.
Be sure to blow out candles before leaving a room and always stay in the kitchen when cooking. If you notice any issues with your home’s heating system, contact a professional right away. Never leave a fireplace burning unattended and clean your dryer vent if clothes begin taking longer to dry. Finally, keep space heaters at a safe distance from other objects and plug them directly into a wall outlet rather than an extension cord.
A few mindful habits can help ensure your home stays warm, cozy, and safe this season.

PennDOT is reminding drivers to be cautious on leaf-covered roadways!
Wet leaves can make the roadway as slippery as ice and obscure traffic lines and other pavement markings. Be careful walking as well!

Pennie (ACA) is on the Chopping Block
|
Unless the U.S. Congress acts, enhanced premium tax credits for Marketplace (ACA) insurance will expire on Dec. 31.
This means starting with open enrollment on Nov. 1, many Pennsylvanians could see their monthly premiums increase by up to 82%.
Nearly 500,000 Pennsylvanians rely on Pennie for affordable coverage — including small business owners, gig workers, farmers, early retirees, and those on COBRA. Without these credits, some premiums could double or even quadruple, putting coverage out of reach for nearly 250,000 people.
Pennie remains the only place to get plans with:
Out-of-pocket cost caps
No annual or lifetime limits
Pre-existing condition coverage
If you have Pennie coverage and want help navigating open enrollment, visit Pennie’s Help Center at pennie.com/connect to connect with local certified assisters and brokers, or call 1-844-844-8040 (M–F, 8 AM–6 PM).
