Bad news, good news.
Last week I provided you with an update on the state budget. Not much has changed this week on the budget front. The Federal Government might shut down next week, adding some more fun to this broad governmental dysfunction. We’re heading back to Harrisburg for session next week, but I’m not sure exactly what we are looking to get done.
That’s the bad news. There is good news for folks also.
My district office is still one of the best places to visit to get help with the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program. We’re scheduling clinics throughout the community for the fall, but if you or someone you know could benefit from this program but don’t know where to start, LET US BE WHERE YOU START! Call (215-572-5210), email (RepNelson@pahouse.net) or stop by (115 E. Glenside Ave., Suite 8, Glenside). Even in all the political craziness, we are still able to help many of you find resources.
More good news, the BIRDS are 3-0, a Phillies Red October is right around the corner, and the Union are leading the MLS with the Cup Playoffs just over a week away!
Let’s GO!!!

Camp William Penn & Historic La Mott Day
|
This past Saturday, September 20th, we celebrated the 162nd anniversary of Camp William Penn and Historic La Mott.
It's always awe inspiring to visit this part of American history, and to know that this little pocket of Cheltenham still encompasses such a vibrant community today.
If you haven't visited the La Mott Museum in Historic La Mott, you should go: Historic Districts - Cheltenham PA!

Last night, Thursday, September 25, my office attended the SPS Technologies update at the Abington Middle School Theater. According to the SPS preliminary plan, they expect to begin construction in 2026 with the goal to be production-ready by 2028.
The SPS presentation included plans for a two-story, 350,000-square-foot facility, which is 30% smaller than the original facility that was built in Jenkintown in 1920. The new facility will also incorporate solar panels, and other green features. Company representatives pledged to meet all safety and regulatory standards.
SPS representatives answered many of the community's questions last night and stated that if the community has any other questions or more feedback, they can enter it on the company website here.

Veterans Suicide Awareness Week
|
Yesterday, September 25, marked the beginning of Veterans Suicide Awareness Week.
Did you know that every single day, 17 veterans die by suicide—a rate more than twice that of non-veterans.
Behind each number is a hero, a family, and a story that deserves hope and healing.
You are not alone. Support is here 24/7, confidential, and free.
Other resources include:
- The Headstrong Project, a non-profit mental health organization that provides confidential, barrier-free, stigma-free PTSD treatment for veterans, service members and family connected to care,
- The National Call Center for Homeless Veterans (877-424-3838), open 24/7
- the Women's Veterans Call Center (855-VA-Women), call to connect to appropriate support services related to Military Sexual Support Trauma, Maternity Care, PACT Act, and LGBTQ+ care.
Let's ensure no veterans are left behind.

STILL Collecting Donations for Mitzvah Circle!
|
You may have heard that a couple of weeks ago, one of Mitzvah Circle Foundation’s storage trailers caught fire. While everyone is safe, and emergency responders were able to put out the fire, the loss was insurmountable. Damage from the fire, water and smoke caused a loss of $1.2 million in new, wholesale purchased goods that were planned to be distributed to families in their communities.
These items included new clothing and back packs for students to begin their school year with dignity, undergarments, shoes, diapers and 200 pack n plays. The pack n plays typically go to hospitals, which they give to families who cannot afford a crib, ensuring infants can sleep safely at home.
The initial news story can be found here.
My office is collecting the items in the graphic above to help replace some of the items they lost. You can drop off these items at my office, 115 E. Glenside Ave., Suite 8. Please call my office with any questions, 215-572-5210.
