Madsen welcomes $900,000 to bolster safe, affordable housing

HARRISBURG, June 11 State Rep. Dave Madsen, D-Dauphin, today announced grant awards totaling $900,000 have been awarded to entities with a focus on ensuring residents in Dauphin County have access to safe, affordable housing.

These grants were awarded through the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement Fund. PHARE was established by Act 105 of 2010 to provide the mechanism by which certain allocated state or federal funds, as well as funds from other outside sources, would be used to assist with the creation, rehabilitation and support of affordable housing throughout the commonwealth.

The local awards and recipients are as follows:

  • $200,000 – LGBT Community Center Coalition of Central PA

  • $200,000 – Brethren Community Ministries (bcmPEACE)

  • $150,000 – Christian Churches United of the Tri-County Area

  • $150,000 – Scholars Inc.

  • $115,000 – Brethren Housing Association

  • $85,000 – Harrisburg First Church of the Brethren

“Ensuring that individuals and families have access to secure, affordable housing is foundational to our community’s well-being and future success,” Madsen said. “By investing in these trusted local organizations, we are building a stronger support system for every resident in Dauphin County.”
