Madsen welcomes more than $1.1M to expand after school, summer programs for Dauphin County youth

HARRISBURG, April 15 State Rep. Dave Madsen, D-Dauphin, today announced that grants totaling more than $1.1 million have been awarded to three Dauphin County organizations to expand out-of-school-time programming and prevention services for local youth.

The funding will expand vital programming, increase academic supports and mentoring, and provide safe, structured environments during high-risk after-school and summer hours for hundreds of children and teens across Harrisburg and the Steelton-Highspire community.

“These investments put proven prevention strategies into action – expanding safe, structured after-school and summer opportunities, strengthening academic supports, and connecting young people with caring adults so they can thrive,” Madsen said. “By funding programs that address both learning and social-emotional needs, we’re helping keep kids safe and building stronger communities across Dauphin County.”

The local awards and recipients are as follows:

  • $495,420 – The Joshua Group.

  • $400,000 – Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg.

  • $217,456 – The Salvation Army in Harrisburg Capital City Region.

These awards are part of the 2025–26 Violence Intervention & Prevention and Building Opportunities Through Out of School Time funding framework administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. BOOST grants are intended to expand out-of-school-time programming for at-risk school-age youth and support evidence-based or evidence-informed practices delivered by community partners.
