Making Childcare Affordable in PA

I hear from parents all the time that child care is not affordable in PA, and I also know that our child care workers aren’t being paid fairly. That’s why I came out yesterday to join my legislative colleagues & DHS Secretary Val Arkoosh in support of Gov. Josh Shapiro’s proposed $55 million investment to support child care workforce recruitment and retention grants that will help ensure our child care workers are paid a living wage and PA parents have more affordable child care available.

Grant for Our Area

I'm pleased to announce that LocalDutch USA LLC was awarded $40,000 in state grant funding from the nation’s first Agricultural Innovation Program. Harrisburg-based LocalDutch USA LLC offers an innovative and sustainable community-based farming model: an indoor farming facility that will increase a locality’s availability of healthy produce for residents year-round. It’s exciting to see Harrisburg lead the way with this revolutionary idea that will have a positive impact on our communities.

Interested in law, government and freedom of speech? Consider interning at the Pennsylvania Office of Open Records. The OOR provides an exciting opportunity for college students with an interest in law to learn about and assist with its mission to provide residents access to government records.

PA House of Representatives Scholarship Opportunity

Applications are now being accepted for the PA House of Representatives Scholarship Program. The Program – administered through The Foundation for Enhancing Communities – is for graduating high school seniors who reside in Pennsylvania. TFEC awards two four-year scholarships to high school seniors each year. The award consists of the value of one semester of tuition at the State System of Higher Education for each of four years.  Students must maintain eligibility criteria in all four years to receive the ongoing award.

Eligibility Criteria:

1. Graduating High School Senior
2. Legal Residency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
3. Attendance at a PA College, university, or career school as a full-time student
4. Academic achievement (minimum 3.0 cumulative high school GPA)
5. Commitment to community and leadership qualities
6. Extracurricular activities
7. Financial need
