Guzman welcomes $7,500 in grant funding for Alvernia University project

READING, Jan. 12 – State Rep. Manuel Guzman, D-Berks, today announced that a local project will receive $7,500 in grant funding through the Pennsylvania Agriculture and Youth Grant Program.

The grant has been awarded to:

  • Alvernia University – Seeds of Discovery: Raised Bed Pilot Project - $7,500. Created through the 2019 PA Farm Bill, this grant program provides funding for eligible projects focused on education, workforce development seminars or field trips and agricultural safety training.

“This funding will strengthen the meaningful work of the Seeds of Discovery pilot project and support opportunities for youth to develop valuable agricultural and leadership skills,” Guzman said. “I’m pleased to see Alvernia University among the 2026 Ag & Youth grant recipients of this program.”

The Pennsylvania Agriculture and Youth Grant Program provides direct and matching grants to youth-centered organizations, projects, programs and equipment that promote agricultural education, leadership development, vocational skills and positive peer relationships.

The program offers $500,000 in grants across two types: up to $7,500 for direct, non-matching project costs (excluding capital projects), and up to $25,000 for matching grants covering up to 50% of capital projects or equipment purchases.
