Shusterman’s childcare study resolution passes House

HARRISBURG, June 24 – State Rep. Melissa Shusterman, D-Chester, said she is proud to announce that her legislation, H.R. 363, was approved with strong bipartisan support on a 186-16 vote by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. It will direct the Joint State Government Commission to conduct a study on the impact of the public, private and private equity sectors in childcare.

Additionally, the study will address the increased pressures of childcare facilities and costs associated with rising professional liability insurance rates. The Commission would be required to examine actions taken by other states and to issue a report with its findings and legislative recommendations.

“For working families, childcare is too expensive and all too often parents struggle to find care,” Shusterman said. “The current situation for working parents, childcare facilities, and the professionals who take care of our children requires that we take action in the General Assembly. We owe it to the working parents, businesses and childcare providers of our Commonwealth to put in the effort and step up to create a viable path forward.”

“As amended, this broad study will examine all the sectors of childcare in our state. I thank my colleagues for coming together to support this vital initiative.”
